Team Cuba now has nine members still alive, but ended the day with its first loss as super heavyweight Robert Alfonso dropped a 5-3 verdict against Vyacheslav Glakzov of Ukraine, who now boasts eight members still in the medal hunt.
Massive Chinese southpaw Zhang Zheili gave his country a thrill with a 15-0 shutout over Morocco's Mohammed Amanissi, but was upstaged exactly one fight later when Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Myrsatayev blasted out Daniel Beahan of Australia in just 49 seconds.
