what do the american public think of oscar?

As a brit who has only been into boxing for a year or so i missed oscar in his prime really.

But is he a popular icon to the sport in america? In britain your average sport fan is unlikely to know him, but in america would most people know of him?

he got the hearts of americans when he was in the olympics. and he was market like this perfect golden child. he was able to cross over and evrybody knows who he is like over here everybody knows tyson holyfield and de la hoya. not that many people really like him though. he's kinda arrogant in a feminine way.

He is even more well known for the fact that he was in hollywood & all that ****. That is why some Mexican fans believe he "sold out".

put it like this, he fought all the best fighters(except Winky) & lost 2 all the best fighters @ their prime(except 4 Ike Quartey). 4 sum reason he is a draw, i guess its da smile(thats y no 1 likes Mayweather, but i do) & he is now a promoter.

Everyone knows who he oscar de la hoya is in america but I don't think he's nearly as relevant as he once was and I bet there are some that thought he retired years ago.
