I think it was more of a money/ credability factor.

People even now dont really know who Maragrito is unless its a mexican or hardcore boxing fan.

Yes Margarito was a champ but he was coming off of some losses too. A loss even at a heavier weight class will still make your marketablilty drop enormously.

It looks better on record to defeat a dangerous undefeated fighter than to fight a fighter who is just as dangerous if not more but has a couple losses on thier record

Fighting Mosley back then? Come on, he went on to fight...Louis Collazzo. That was a big fight?

      But they knew Collazo? LOL.

That loss was what, 4-5 years before? Are you serious?

      How is this relevant?

First off Collazo has fought Ricky hatton and went the distance in a close fight ,who at that time was the top kid at JR Welter.

            Way more credible than Margarito

Why not fight Collazo. It would look good on paper , he most likely would look impressive and make more than an antonio margarito anyday.

Again money and credability. Im sure if he fought Margarito instead of Collazo and wouldve won nobody would know who Antonio Margarito is. and Shalafi wouldnt have nuts to hug

How is a close fight with a junior welter more credible than fighting Antonio Margarito who, at the time, was the longest reigning champ at welter and had a far better resume than Collazo?

Are you kidding me? Collazo doesn't bring in more money than Margarito...EVER. Not before Cotto, not before Clottey, hell not even before SIX HEADS LEWIS. What are you talking about?

Speak for yourself, dude. You obviously know little about Margarito or perhaps the welterweight division. Maybe because you just started noticing him. Some of us have been watching since he was on Showtime at the turn of the century. Some of us remember how HBO hyped him up in 2002. And some of us recall how he was avoided for years. Others - such as yourself obviously - found that out a couple weeks ago. Louis Collazo brings more money and credibility than Antonio Margarito? Really? Is that why 4000 people showed up to watch him fight Hatton? 3999 of them Brits? Please.

margarito is one of the sloppiest champs

You say Hyping Margarito? Whats there to hype except a huge Welter who moved down because he cant handle the power of middleweights. the guy has lil skill, throws wildly and misses half of his punches. I give him credit for high workrate but in 2002 I dont anybody had super high hopes for the guy.

**** fighting a bull**** fight with Margarito, Mosley made the perfect choice. it was his welterweight debut.

Longest reigning Welter champ?? please explain.

Doesn't really say he wants to fight him either.

There is another video where he makes the crazy remark though.

Nobody wants to lose to someone with a lesser name. Shane happened to handle his issue with class. Mayweather just tries to ridicule potential opponents.
