When Calzaghe faced Hopkins it was to add a legend to his resume and to recieve the ring belt as well as being the number one lightheavyweight in the world.Calzaghe has stated in many interveiws he had trouble making weight so moving up to 175 from 168 should not be considered such a big feat or an excuse for his bad performance.Compare that to what Pavlik is doing by him moving up to 170 from his normal fighting weight at 160.I know his last fight was at a catchweight of 166 but he had every other fight at 160 before that.Pavlik gains no belt and pretty much no recognition in any weightclass considering it is at a catchweight.Unless Pavlik has a dominant performance or knocks out Bernard no one will consider it a good victory and both of those tasks are near impossible even for a heavy fisted fighter like Pavlik.I perdict a Hopkins win because of Pavliks limited style and I am not alone in this. Many people claim Pavlik to be a one demensional hype job and see him losing to Hop even at his age of 43 soon to be 44.In my opinion Pavlik should recieve the same credit as Calzaghe if he wins because Kelly doesnt have the skills of Calzaghe or the speed and doesn't posses the foot work either.Pavlik is stepping in with the most defensive fighter of this generation who also has the ability to take away your best weapon and Pavlik only has one major weapon(POWER).For Hopkins this should be easy to negate with lateral movement and clinching to keep Kellys long arms at a distance where he can't get extension. If Kelly wins I will be surprised and if he knocks out Hopkins I will be amazed.
Is Pavlik taking a bigger risk than Calzaghe did?
