    RIP the Heavyweight division

I just watched Ali-Frazier III again. Just makes you realise how dead today's HW division is when you watch fights like that. Pretty sad really.

Yeah it's some sad **** right now. Around what point would you say the HW Division died? When Ali left the game, when Tyon fought Douglas, after Holyfield faded? Or was it the era of many great fights, and not the rankings and names that mattered?

These are just things I always wonder when people call the heavyweight division dead, which more than ever I gotta agree with these days.

Yeah I dunno, obviously it reached a peak in this kind of era with so many greats around at once. I think the decline was gradual. You still had guys coming along after that era like Holmes, Holyfield, Bowe, Tyson, etc. but they became less and less until we are left with the current situation.

I blame Tyson. After saying he made Tyrell Biggs scream like his wife, and that he could've knocked him out fast but wanted to do it slow to make him remember it, and then going on to talk about Razor Ruddock's big lips, and saying he was going to make him his girlfriend... I dunno I'm thinkin all the talented big boys figured golf and MMA might be a safer route.

I miss fights like Michael Moorer and Bert Cooper, and James Toney vs Holyfield, and Holyfield vs anyone.

Around time Lewis retired. Tyson and Lewis gone, Holyfield over the hill...

It kinda dropped off around then IMO.

There are some talented fighters, but the fights just arn't interesting anymore

The decline imo began in the 60's as far as number of people taking up boxing but the decline was very slow at that point, the last great fighters to come through where in the 80's and early 90's, The last real good talent i remember was Ike but now we have the Hayemaker.

                when lewis retired.
and ever since, the HW division has been dead.
although i give wlad full respect for atleast providing SOME entertainment (KO's).

Heavyweight boxing is a little bit better than it was a couple of years ago but it's still in a pretty sad state.

The division just never delivers when it comes to exciting fights.
