Here is the proof. I said i was going to post. When someone said that Chavez never fought a top contender at welterweight. The audio is little messed up but you can hear the details. Again, this was just a tune up fight for Chavez, a work out bout. We don't see fighters today have these type of tune up opponets.
Fighting #9 IBF Contender as a TUNE-UP FIGHT! Chavez

Correct me if I'm ****ing ******, but...
Wasn't Whitaker-Chavez at 147?
I honestly don't know a better welterweight all time to fight than Whitaker, other than maybe Robinson or Mayweather Jr. or something.
Whoever said that Chavez didn't fight anyone good at 147 is out of their ****ing mind.Comment

lol, left out the detail, he said Chavez only fought Whitiker and no other ranked fighter at welteweight.Correct me if I'm ****ing ******, but...

Lol, okay... I was like what ****ing idiot had the balls to say something that ******?
Anyway...
Joey Gamache isn't a terrible fighter.
Oscar De La Hoya seems to have had at least a bit of succes in the sport, and their rematch was at welterweight.
But honestly? Julio Cesar Chavez was already a million fights into his career by the time he got to welterweight, and was already a bit faded to say the least. In addition, the more defensive a fighter is, the easier time they have moving up in weight, because them winning fights isn't about landing a lot of hard punches, it's about avoiding punches and outpointing the other guy. Chavez was a very physical fighter, and the more he moved up in weight, the less effective he was with his "in your face" style.
By the time Chavez got to welterweight, he could already hang his hat on an incredible career in retirement if he wanted to.
I seriously cannot understand why Julio Cesar Chavez gets so much hate. People say he fought a lot of bums, which is true, but... it's probably no higher of a percentage of his opponents than any other fighter has... it just seems like more because he fought a trillion different people in his career.
Rant over.
Chavez = one of the best fighters of the past 20 years, easily.Comment

That was me, and what I said was that JCC had never beaten a welterweight contender. If you want to pretend that some hick named Kenny Vice was a welterweight contender because one rating body had him at #9, go ahead and fool yourself.
If you look at Vice's record http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=2104&cat=boxer, you'll see two obvious facts. He was never a contender, and he was never even a welterweight. He weighed 139 against Chavez and there is no record of him ever fighting above 140. Now try again to invent a welterweight contender that Chavez ever beat.Comment

Am I wrong that he was good? I'm actually just taking a shot in the dark, his record doesn't look terrible and I know his name from somewhere so... I figured he might be a decent fighter.Comment
