Can someone explain why there arent more Chinese boxing champs? Japan, Thailand and the Philippines have produced plenty of champs so why hasnt China which has 1/5th of the world's population. They're obviously into combat sports.

Yes that's true but you can find all of the major boxing competitions on the Chinese CCTV network. They're also much better physically suited for boxing than basketball which is one of the most popular sports in china today (largely do to Yao Ming). The Chinese government has been making a major push in sports and they could very easily dominate boxing so I dont understand why they havent made more of an attempt to promote it.Comment

It was banned in the Moaist era so they are new to the sport really. They only introduced it back on curriculum lately and I think considering it has been a short while, they are going in right direction. Also, the Communist Party still ahve no interest in exploring the pro game or developing prizefighting even though they have had many other economic reforms.Comment

So all they need is one big boxer like Pacman did for his island for them to get behind, I hope we see more Chinese in boxing ala Japan, Tailand, Korea. Its exciting that the Olympics are being held in China, and their opening their doors to new ideas, maybe boxing would be one of them but Saddam Ali lost badly today so who knows.Yes that's true but you can find all of the major boxing competitions on the Chinese CCTV network. The country is worse than Bob Arum or Don King, they will take your money away what ever you earned professionally. Yao Ming is a rare case because the United States struck a deal with the country. China probably just gets half of his money.Comment
