David Reid and Bernard Hopkins hated each other, anyone know why?

Was watching Hopkins-Echols 1 the other day and they mentioned how Bernard might move down to 154 to fight Vargas or Reid and they said how Reid and Hopkins hated each other. Any idea why? What's the beef.

Also since we are talking about Hopkins-Echols 1 indirectly, does anyone find round 5's punch stats for Bernard to be completely hilarious. They were 27 punches landed out of 28.

being as though I'm from North Philly and both Hopkins and Reid are North Philly products....I felt it was my obligation to inform you that the beef between Hopkins and Reid started in a Philly Boxing gym....Reid had won an Olympic gold medal while Hopkins was fighting for recognition...Reid became a more popular fighter in Philly than B-Hop....so one day while both Reid and Hopkins were in the gym one of Reid's nutthuggers mentioned that Reid's olympic medal made him a better fighter than B-Hop...B-Hop took exception to the comment and challenged Reid right there on the spot.....both sides went back and forth verbally until B-Hop was made to leave the gym while Reid was allowed to continue trainin'! thats word on the street.....but that was mad years ago!

        Thanks for the information.

There were rumors of Reid fighting Hopkins had he beaten Trinidad, that would have been a pretty good fight.

I belive that Hopkins like most have an ego.

But, i still find it funny how Hopkins wanted to challenge the 154 pounders even at one time when Calzaghe called him out.

People like to hate on Mexican boxers for weight but Hopkins wanted to fight 154 pounders even remember he'd drop even lower.
