Longest layoff before coming back and winning a world title.

So far it seems Sugar Ray Leonard's 2 years 11 month layoff before beating Hagler is the longest anyone came back from a layoff to win a world title. Assuming Vitali makes it to the fight (a long shot to be sure,) will it be the longest layoff ever before winning a world title without a single tuneup fight? Oh, I should clarify no tuneup fights or George Foreman takes the cake.

Well if history means anything, I think you're correct. Not sure Ray would have pulled of what he did without the 24 ft ring and the 10 oz gloves. Would be pretty amazing if Vitali could pull it off, but he'd probably vacate right after.

Without a tuneup fight. George had over 20.

Henry Maske. He is the linear WBA CW champ.

The would take the cake had Hill's title been up for grabs.

I was joking... that's why I said he was the linear WBA champ because he beat the man who had the title. The fact that he beat a title-holder technically counts
