The question is whether or not Jones in his prime would've beat Tarver. I lean towards yes but I'm of the opinion that Jones would have trouble with Tarver even on his best day. The signs are all there.

In the amateurs, Jones suffered a standing eight count against Frankie Liles, a tall, lanky power-hitting southpaw.

Prior to Tarver, his sole knockdown came from an extremely big southpaw in Lou Del Valle. And Eric Harding troubled him as well.

So I think it's safe to say that Jones would have always had trouble with Antonio Tarver.

Jones' big mistake was that he attempted to avenge a win. That's a bad move and as much as he gets knocked for "not taking risks" it's funny how, unlike other fighters, he didn't take the W and run. But Jones always was a risk taker--ironically, it came back to bite him against Tarver.

As for the weight issue, I'm sure it affected him some but even worse was that he was aging. Some of us noticed it nearly three years earlier when Derrick Harmon landed a ridiculous 59% of his power punches against Jones. Fighting a much slower fighter in Ruiz helped mask that slipping--****, Clinton Woods gave him a tougher time.

Antonio Tarver would have caused many problems for a younger Roy but unless he was capable of pulling off what he did in the rematch EVERY time they fought, most of their fights would've looked a lot closer to the first one, with a more FLEET-footed Jones winning a lot more rounds handily.

Only when dealing with Roy Jones can a boxer go at best 1-2 against another fighter. (one loss being badly knocked out cold). The lone win being controversial and some think lost.

Then have the question asked Tarver vs Jones who wins? And it goes 23 to 4 in favor of Roy Jones. We have seen these two fight 3 times and their is no question who wins and its Tarver EASY.

That's quite deceptive, however. Timing is as important to facts as anything else. I think sometimes it's best to look at circumstances and see it objectively. Erik Morales was knocked out twice by Manny Pacquaio, the last ending in the third. I don't know about you but I haven't assumed that, prime for prime, Manny Pacquiao knocks out Erik Morales each time.

There is pretty much no point using logic with Darkstar and Pelon when discussing anything to do with Roy Jones. They are just straight up haters.

True. But thats a completely different situation. Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao were on different stages of thier career. That was Morales sencond to last fight. Jones and Taver are still fighting to this day. Not to mention the age difference, where Taver and Jones are the exact same age.

Again, I think that you have to look at timing and circumstances.

Comparing ages is a dangerous, dangerous practice that has been proven false countless times. To suggest that two HUMANS, let alone fighters, are on the same wave of life because they share the same age is absolutely ludicrous. Sugar Ray Leonard was finished by 32, the same age when Roberto Duran was picking up the junior middle title from Davey Moore.

Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. didn't age the exact same way just because they were the same age. If this were true, why did Eric Harding knock down and beat Antonio Tarver (breaking his jaw in the process) and then a few months later, lose to Roy? If Roy and Antonio aged the same way? I think you have to keep that in its proper perspective.
