Puerto rico is part of the US and therefore have much more American influences. To school you a bit, there are a lot of "Angelsismos" in PR. Meaning they have a lot of English influences because of their unique situation.

"anglicismo" is the correct word, but you have the right idea.

If you study the linguistic trends of Puertoricans, the influences go both ways.

Inglaņol and Spanglish.

ur my man are intelligent! exactly .. i am puerto rican i grew up in puerto rico , only been here in usa since 2000 as u guys can see my grammah is terrible, but i do speak English and understand it.. in puerto rico for example at the movie theater the movies are in English with subtitle in Spanish and yes there a lot usa influence there...

It's actually "anglisismos", which means euphemisms. That is not true at all, we are taught English in school just like Americans are taught Spanish. Some learn it well, but the vast majority have extremely poor to below average skills. The English language is NOT spoken in Puerto Rico.

I agree, however, that the thread starter made a very ****** and racist remark. Most Puerto Ricans speak better English than Americans speak Spanish, but that is not because we are "smarter", and the same goes for Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

In Calderon's case though, he was raised in the U.S., so that is a very important reason why his English is much better than, say, Cotto's, or Tito's (lol)

It's an influence of English culture and words that has infiltrated Puerto Rico more so than other Latin countries becuase of the American presence on the island.

I live in Miami and I hear the "spanglish" that is spoken by Puerto Ricans and it's definitly not an uncommon thing.

let me put this example out there.. last year i went to puerto rico for a week , i took my lady with me, she is a white girl so no Spanish at all, i was very surprise that she actually went around everywhere speaking English to everyone she communicate with and she dint ask me to help her on anything or maybe once.. and she went shopping crazy there, so we all know how lady go to the store and shop until they drop... i will say most Ppl on my age group 20 to 30 know enough English to get around or unless understand it

But spanish is also a white european language. English isnt any less white european than spanish, you are really just interchanging languages, not intergrating one "white language" to some minority created language, that doesnt make any sense to me.

I just find it funny how so many illegals and even chicanos do not speak good english! its like if you come to america to get a job illegally wouldnt you be grateful and show some love for america? cause mexico didnt want your ass....I mean learn english and stop throwing garbage on the streets ya know?
