    Margaritos Marketability- Good or Bad?

    Is Margarito a marketable guy??

I know hes a champion but it seems like hes a pug fighter, Being a boxing fan I will pay $50 dollars to watch him fight as well as any other PPV no matter who is fighting, but what about the casual fan? They barely know who he is and I dont think hes a big draw. Cotto was a bigger draw than margs and spoke english and spanish, plus he was being Sponsored by American Clothing Companies.

I speak to ManyMexicans regarding the fight and a lot of them dont now who he is, and the Mexicans that do are happy but make it seem like he wont last long as a champion and he will never live up to a Julio Cesar Chavez.

The biggest draws in Boxing right now are either retired or too old, Cotto was almost a breath of fresh air to boxing as far as commercialism is concerned.

Can they Market Margarito as the new staple for boxing or will he forever be a mexicans idol?

I noticed they have been reallly tryin to sell him, Especially Max Kellerman ( which I feel is due to Cotto not giving him an interview)

Granted there are Great guys in the WW division like Andre Berto paul Williams.

Can Margarito be sold to be BIG? or will they start to focus more on Americanized fighters?

I think they can do it but it will take time and he cant lose his next couple defenses which I feel Paul Williams has a good shot at stealing.

I think the only way for him to become a big draw in boxing is for him to fight and beat DLH because right now his fanbase is limited to Mexican and hardcore fans.

But if promoted correctly, I think he can make good PPV buys and all that but he won't be a big, huge draw unless he fights DLH.

i think if he beats paul williams he will have a good fanbase. If he fights ODLH and wins, you bet everyone is going to be riding his nuts. Margarito will become a rich mother ****er if he wins that fight.

Which I think he most likely will, I dont know if DLH has the desire anymore to get int he ring with a machine like Margarito or COtto.

He will stick with fights where he can look good and not be intimidated

Yeah he isn't overly marketable himself so he needs a win over a very well-known fighter to increase his marketability. De la Hoya would obviously be a good candidate however I think Oscar would beat Margarito.

I agree, DLH is his best bet.

absolutely not. first of all he looked good against cotto because cotto was having a brilliant night and he wore him down but his style is ugly. he's bent over throwing slow innacurate punches. in other fights the fights look ugly. casual fans and even boxing fans prefer a fighter with some style, perhaps an edge, a bit of unpredictability. with margarito you know what your gonna get and the only draw is who he's matched against. if he's matched against alfonzo gomez nobody cares but cotto and mayweather would still draw.

another thing that is killing him is need for an interpreter. his interviews are boring. he lacks a personality. I know he can speak english when someone gives him a compliment he starts smiling before the interpreter has spoken. plus he's always in LA. even if he can't speak it well just doing it would kill the dry interviews. who doesn't love sam peter interviews or cottos I like to use my yab. that 4 mill he can get from paul williams might be the highest he'll ever get. and lets not say dlh cause that's not gonna happen.
