I wouldn't be that confident. Vic is obviously improving and hopefully he continues to do so. It looked as though the new trainer is really helping him and he showed it in the Kirilov fight, but, he also showed why he was beaten by Donaire. When he got excited he was still opening himself up to counters and someone that was more with it than Kirilov was at that point could have taken advantage of it.
I think Vic is really trying to actually improve his skills because it seems as though he fell in love with his power and payed the price. Whenever fighters do that they always pay the price when they fight someone they either can't hurt or can't hit. It looks as though Vic is smart enough to know that he needed to change things and it looks as though he has a good trainer to help him do that.
I hope that he continues to improve and if he does I think he can keep winning and actually become really quite good. His defense was a lot better also which was great to see. His style is actually quite conducive to using awkward head and body movement as defense, but, he needs to make sure to keep from squaring up too much which he tends to do when excited and trying to go for the kill. If he learns to keep in that side position he showed a lot more of, then he could become hard to hit, present less of a target and also be able to throw punches that are harder to see coming while working behind his jab.
I was very surprised and happy that he has improved that much and is looking to keep improving his boxing skill which could do absolute wonders for him. He has the natural power and speed. He now needs to work behind the jab, which he did very well but it still could be used to much greater effect, and also try to keep from getting hit and learning not to drop his right hand when throwing the left.
If he fought Donaire it would be a very hard fight. I think Donaire has the style to beat him unless Vic can keep improving. He has to learn that he cannot telegraph his punches otherwise Donaire will beat him again. He has to keep them short and sharp and work them behind his jab along with more combinations onvolvng his right hand without squaring up too much. It's too easy to see when he is squared up and against a fighter like Donaire, that would get him beaten.
I don't think he should fight Donaire again for a while yet. Keep up the boxing training and find some other big fights first. He hasn't improved enough to fight Donaire yet. It would be hard. If he improved on the performance we just saw then he may very well be able to beat him later on, but as it stands, I don't think he could yet. Great win nonetheless! I hope he keeps it up and can keep on winning and getting better. Kirilov was a very good fighter and it was a big win. I was stunned that he was able to KO Kirilov! That was very, very impressive, along with the way he went about doing it.
