the downfall of the american amatuer program

this is one of the main keys as well. If they/someone could spend a lot of time/money to "revamp" the program so to speak we could see a dramatic increase in top american fighters

I guess it could do with the lack of interest of boxing in general within the US compared to the past. From what a trainer said at my gym, the number of people involved in boxing in my city has probably gone down by 75% since the 80's.

In my opinion, people say the world is "evening out" but the world has always had a presence in boxing, if eastern europeans could have fought during the soviet era pro, wed see alot of great white champions in the hall of fame from that era, if cubans could fight pro NOW, the boxing landscape might be dramatically different.

Whats happening is black americans would rather get that garunteed 20million dollar baseball contract, that garunteed 40 million dollar 3 year NBA contract, that 18 Million dollar signing bonus as a rookie in the NFL etc.

Back in the day, you didint have options like that, ****, back in the day, you couldnt even become a ****ing free agent in football.

Whats happening is our larger more skilled atheletes who are black are just more attracted to sports that are at the forefront like football, basketball and baseball. Boxing is not on ABC, with all this PPV ****, and with most fights aiming to appeal to an ethnic fanbase like Puerto Rico, Mexico, Phillipines, etc, there is little to no appeal for young black americans to give boxing a try.

Like i said, the downfall of our amatuer program is making the biggest impact, which is why i am hoping and wishing oscar brings it back with his investments.

this is mostly due to the dearth of american heavyweights who are even participating in our amatuer program, most of our best heavyweights are at outside linebacker or at power foward or first base at this point. Notice how its white europeans, not americans.

I can think of a ton of black upcomers right off the top of my head. Dirrell, Peterson brother, and Berto. There isnt a lack of blacks in boxing. The blacks that are stars now will be stars for a little bit longer and then these guys will take there place.

But you cant deny, there used to be about 20 of these black prospects in every division from lightweight to heavyweight, now we can name them on one or two hands.
