After only six fights and nine months as a pro, extremely fast-rising light heavyweight Beibut Shumenov (6-0, 5 KOs) already has a big name on his resume. Local sources report that Kazakh former Olympian, who may be one of the hottest prospects in the sport, made former WBC champion Montell Griffin (49-8, 30 KOs) look like a novice, shutting him out over twelve one-sided rounds on Saturday night in Chimkent, Kazakhstan.
Following this huge victory Shumenov, who has retained his WBC Asian Boxing Council and WBO Asia Pacific 175lb belts during the process, is expected to enter top ranks of several sanctioning bodies. He was already ranked #15 by the WBO before after only five pro bouts.
Griffin, who has two wins over James Toney, had been ranked BoxRec #22 and was in excellent shape, having dominated an age 28, 16-2 fighter in June.
Shumenov, age 24, has now risen to BoxRec #18 at 175 after only nine months as a pro.
