Clottey, Darchinyan Shine: Post-Weekend Report Card

By Cliff Rold - The outcome of Showtime’s main event became obvious too soon after the opening bell. The outcome of HBO’s concluded on an anti-climactic cut. Yet, with fourteen rounds between the two bouts, it would be hard to find room to argue about the way the results came out. Saturday night ran with the story ingredients of redemption and validation, heavy leather displayed all the way. [details]

I haven't been as wrong about a fight as I was about Darchinyan-Kirilov in a long time. Darchinyan was as impressive as Kirilov was disappointing.

I'll say! I didn't get to catch it unfortunately but after reading what happened, I was very surprised. I thought Kirilov would be able to give Vic some trouble with his boxing and, especially after what happened against Donaire, I really thought that is the route that Kirilov would aim for. Obviously I was wrong. How exactly did Kirilov fight it? The article says he looked shot and also looked terrible in his last fight, which I don't think is true. He looked ok apart from standing in a bit too much and taking too many punches.

Either way, it sounds as though Vic fought quite well and put on an impressive showing. I wonder what he could do next or who he could fight.

vic smashed him, kirilov looked quite ordinary to be honest but vic was genuinely on fire... kirilov looked battered and disheartened when he was being counted out and after the fight, hes a decent fighter, its just that vic was really at his best

Kirilov just never got into the fight. He had no answers for anything Vic did, and probably didn't land one combination in the fight. Darchinyan dictated the pace from the start. I'd be reluctant to pick Kirilov in a major fight again.

Zab Quit again! He was getting busted up and found the easy way out by claiming blindness. He should try 140 or maybe get a job.
