True, but I suspect Williams would not be physically dwarfed as he's actually taller(6'3") than Pavlik at 160 so it's not as big a mismatch as it initially might have looked. He's fought at middleweight a half dozen times already so it's not like he's never faced middleweights before.

I seem to recall that Haymon advised Mayweather against facing Margarito around the time he was considering facing Mitchell at 147. I believe the offer at the time was near $7 million. It was probably smart in hindsight because Floyd had never fought up at welterweight before.

Williams is not a power guy at welterweight How would he have looked against Pavlik who can take a punch. Williams and Margarito's size advantage are the reason they are controling Welters. Floyd was never true 147lb fighter so Haymon did his job by advising Mayweather against fighting Margarito. Margarito was never a big name untill his win over Cotto. Pavlik at 160 would destroy Williams or Margarito. Pavlik might have bit of more than he can chew by going up 10lbs and fighting Hopkins.

I don't think Hopkins was their ideal choice but they ran out of time and options because of that fiasco.
