Antonio Margarito just had the biggest win of his career. He is on top of the world. Good for him.
But, this isn't about him. This is about the people who defend him to the point that you almost (or for some, I'm sure) start to actually hate the guy.
One of your biggest 'rivals' if you're a Margarito fan is Floyd Mayweather. Plenty of people who support Tony and hate Floyd point to the 'fact' that Mayweather turned down $8,000,000 to fight Margarito. I don't know if that's true, but what I do know is.......
I've seen as much proof for that statement as I have for, 'Margarito has been offered $4,000,000 to fight Williams.'
Now, you could say that sources are everything. But, the sources are all essentially the same. Nothing, unless you're actually involved in the situation yourself. If I'm correct with my assumption, none of us on this board are on the inside the camps/teams of any of the fighters mentioned in this thread.
So, what Margarito fans must realize is that things are very tricky for them now. You see, if Margarito decides to go for the BIG MONEY fight, and go for an easy fight, then the big one or directly to the big one, you have to stop giving Mayweather **** for doing the same thing.
On the flip side, if he just all together avoids Williams and takes on Clottey or Judah or rematches Cotto, you have to stop giving Mayweather **** for Fighting Judah after a loss and stop giving Mayweather **** for talks of a rematch with passed rivals.
Furthermore, you Margarito fans might want to say, 'But, this is different. The promoter doesn't want to do business with Williams' people.'
But...... Lol...... That arguement is only as valid as Floyd's was, when he stated he didn't take the Margo fight because he didn't want to do business with Arum. If Arum is capable of holding a grudge, Mayweather should be capable of the same thing.
To make things very clear, I enjoy watching Margarito fight. He's exciting. Throws a ****load of punches and can take a mean shot. He's a likeable guy, a proud guy and a test for anyone. This isn't about him. This is about what is fair, and what's right. What's true.
So, my point. Margarito, like Mayweather is at the peak of his popularity up to this point. As much as you Mayweather-hating, Margarito-loving mofos hate to admit it, Margo is in the same spot (on a smaller scale) that Mayweather was. So, now.. you gotta drop that judgemental ****. Because the shoes on the other foot now.
