I'd say 1.7 million of the 2.5 million fans that bought the DLH/Mayweather card are casual fans.

Well most of the time I only watch HBO fights because i'm not always home for the friday night fights.
I don't buy PPV because most of them cost more than they should and i'll get to see it for free somewhere anyway.

My dad was a boxing fan and my uncle boxed so i had already had some knowledge and had watched boxing at a young age but didn't know a lot about it.
I started really getting into boxing by reading boxing history books mags the ring,ko,fight game, ect and buying up all of the 'Best punchers' 'Tyson and the Heavyweight greats' blah blah blah tapes.

I can tell you a lot of usless info on hall of famers and near hall of famers but i'm not so good with guys who had a short career at the high level the "also rans" and "gate keepers".

I have a few hundred fights on tape and DVD.
I have a folder thats about 2inches think of boxer records that i've printed off and a scrap book of news paper clippings of Tyson and a few others.

          What am I ?

Thats a lot like me. My father was a huge boxing fan and ever since I was young I would dig into his collection of fights. He had tons of videos and thats how I started to get into the fight game. I dont collect clippings or anything but I probably have read over 100 boxing books in my short lifetime. I read about 4 books a year just about various fighters. From 1884 to present day, Ive read a lot of em. Unlike you though I do watch as much boxing from the espn cards to buying nearly every single PPV. I would say your a hardcore fan, just a smart hardcore fan. Saving yourself roughly 1000 dollars a year more than I do.

so what's YOUR definition of a casual fan?

do they have HBO, Showtime, buy the PPV's etc?

                  discuss.
I'd say a casual fan only watches big PPV events and doesn't know who Clottey is but thinks he's heard the name Zab Judah before.....

thanks for all the replies, much appreciated

as I kinda thought myself that a cas fan was someone who only knew big name fighters and little else besides PPV.
