the crowd for the margarito fight was 75% in favor of margarito. there were alot of mexicans there to support this great fighter. margarito was already very well known in mexico and among the mexican-americans. by destroying cotto a new audience got to see the damage and destruction that tijuana tornado causes and this allowed him to get even more new fans. with his fan friendly style and amazing ko power i think he will be the biggest draw in boxing once dlh retires. just look at this forum and all people talk about is margarito now.

I think that the locale was mostly what influenced the fan base at the fight. But the excitement was about the matchup. The rematch with Williams while necessary, won't generate anything by comparison IMO, it's just not that interesting. Unless it's against Oscar, Floyd or a rematch down the road with Cotto. The numbers won't come close.

This may be one of those deals that the language barrier takes away from his perceived charisma, in terms of broad based appeal. It's been a long road for him to here and unfortunately I don't think it gets any easier. I think he's going to have to win fight after fight with smaller numbers and reign as champion and slowly build that appeal, that brands a legacy.

every mexican gets support like that in vegas in big fights! Margarito is now a pretty good draw and in the ww division maybe the biggest draw(since floyd is now retired) Now to say the biggest draw in boxing is pretty dumb! and old roy jones jr brings more people to an arena then margarito.
