Naito, Sakata Win, Set Up Flyweight Unification

In a doubleheader in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled to set up a possible unification bout Daisuke Naito retained the WBC flyweight title by knocking out Tomonobu Shimizu. The bout was in doubt for Naito, as he was being outboxed early in the fight and behind on points as the fighters entered the final quarter of the bout. [details]

Both the other fly champions, Donaire and Narvaez would beat these two. Naito in particular would get spanked, even in Japan. Before scoring a KO today, he was getting his ass handed to him by a 13-2 weak-chinned fighter who was barely above amateur status. The fact that Naito beat and drew with Wonjongkam over the past year shows either how overrated Wonjongkam was in the first place or how far from his prime he was by the time he fought Naito

Some of the current group of Japanese fighters deserve more attention, it's ashame none of their fights are aired in Europe or The States.

Naito is like Mayorga and Sakata is Margarito. Donaire would be Mosley and Navarez would be ****...I mean uhh

Navarez is a joke. 13-2 fighter as a tune up? Name the best fighter on Navarez's resume. It might be Brian Asloum and he lost to Lorenzo Para even worse, who Sakata beat.

I think Donaire is better then both of them, but Naito isn't a joke. I mean he might not be the most skilled, but he's improved. Pong was past his prime when Naito beat him. Though I think Naito beat him the 4th time too.

Sakata is a warrior with the guts of Arthur Abraham. Sakata had his jaw broken at the hands of Lorenzo Parra and he still fought on. He got defeated then, but everybody praised him just for his amazing bravery and tenacity. And yes, Sakata is one of the likes of Antonio Margarito. He is never on reverse gear no matter how hard he is hit. Sakata has an alias of The Burning Fist, but I believe The Little Tokyo Tornado is what describes him best.

Naito was apparently nervous last night in the ring. Shimizu was so fast and quick and was nicely boxing circles. Naito said he thought he was leading or even on points but the official judges didn't see the bout that way, so he decided to go for the kill. And so he did. 2 knockdowns were scored, but it was actually Naito's left hook that hurt Shimizu. How many times did Narvaez landed his punches on Asloum? Countless. And he couldn't knock him out. I'm not big on bombs, but Naito's punch has leverage. There's no denying that.
