To give them an even better life. In turn they look out for him and he does what he does because he's looking out for them. That's something special and god doesn't have to be involved.

It's a ridiculous sports tradition that's been passed down for generations, to the point that it's tradition. The same reason after every politician makes a big speech they end it with "God bless you and God bless America".
It's an institution really. Now I'm an Atheist, so obviously I don't believe in God, but Religion is fine in my book if that's your bag. It's just ridiculous to thank God after a sporting event because if God did exist, do you think he'd condone beating the piss out of your fellow man for money?
Do you think he'd condone any other sport either? The sole reason sports exist is to put man on a pedestool, epic performances, come from behind victories, classic shutouts, all in the name of man. I highly doubt God would smile upon such acts.
And about the political part, why would God only bless America? Don't you think he'd bless all the other Countries as well? God is supposedly a righteous and fair man (at least that's how he's portrayed), do you honestly believe he'd bless one Country above all the rest?
It's moronic. And you never hear them blame God when they lose, it's like the late great philosopher/comedian George Carlin said....They always thank God when they win, never when they lose. According to these *******s, God has a perfect winning streak. You never hear them say "the good Lord tripped me up behind the line of scrimmage!"
Bah, you get my point.

Green k for you my man. Terrific post and essentially my thoughts.
God Bless the world, and god bless the fellow man I just physically hurt, would be more appropriate if anything.

I saw a huge bumper sticker the other day on the side of a car that said: God Bless Everyone. No Exceptions! I thought it was funny but true.
