But I disagree on him saying he tried everything. He didn't try smothering Marg's punches and pivoting inside. Hardly any effective clinching either.
Margarito pressed the action to the ropes, his power dictated the fight. Cotto was trying to avoid Margarito's power, thus back against the ropes. Margarito controlled the distance when they were at the ropes, which is why Cotto had so much lateral movement. The few times Cotto came forward Margarito threw left hooks to the body and uppercuts which pushed Cotto back once again. See my post for a long fight analysis. When he pivoted and had Margarito against the ropes Margarito was comfortable, he would throw punches no matter what and Cotto was getting hit, plain and simple. He ate worse punches when he spun, Margarito utilized the upper cut with his back against the ropes which had initially broke Cotto's nose. Obviously he wasn't happy with that, Margarito's has a stronger uppercut. Margarito being the taller fighter with the stronger right has a better chance at keeping Cotto outside with his back against the ropes and he did do a better job of backing Cotto off of him then vice versa.

How does everyone keep saying he will come back more motivated and stronger? Margarito beat the will out of him. That takes a ton of confidence away. You hit a guy more, out box him, and he knocks you out. That is not going to make him stronger, it will make him second guess himself. Cotto may come back but psychologically this fight will take something from him. Just like Taylor vs. Chavez, Taylor lost something that night even though he went on to accomplish more.

Cotto took a serious beating and had his will broken. He took a knee twice, and waited for someone else to stop the fight. This is not a fight that helps you learn you could do better, he fought the fight of his life, best boxing performance yet and lost.

+1 and to add to that, I don't understand why people think that Cotto didn't try everything in that fight. I have watched 3 times now and I see that Cotto tried to clinch, push forward and even try to go to the body but was being made to pay for those tactics.

Cotto fought a near perfect fight and still lost, it was will vs skill and Marg's heart and determination won him this fight.

Cotto Can Dish It But He Cant Take It. Everyone Is Forgetting The Fact That He Quit! He Went To A Knee And When His Corner Waived The White Flag He Made No Argument He Wanted Out That Ring!

lmfao...People on these threads make me laugh scratching Cotto off as if Margo fought a masterpiece and he ended Cotto's career.ha,keep believing that if you want to.The man did the very smart thing by taking 2 kneel downs and acknowledging the fact that he couldnt win (especially while swallowing blood ) and preserved himself for another day.I'll be you more than half of you never threw a punch in your lives or even yet went a 3 min round so cut the caca.Cotto is a fkg warrior and a smart one at that .You give ass whoopins and you take ass whoopins ,you learn from that and come bck stronger than before learning from your mistakes.Cotto is more of a tru soldier than most of you combined.Mark my words the comeback will begin at the end of the year for Cotto and he will have a belt by next year and get his rematch, pssbly avenging it.So all you Cotto haters enjoy your momemt because "the reign at the top will be short like leprachauns" lol~im out~peace

one of the posters on here has a clip in their vid that shows cotto looking to his corner and shacking his head no. I wonder if the corner took it as he doesnt have enough to win? Just my guess though.

it had a lasting effect on Cintron too, now hes terrified of Margarito.
