If Cotto and Hatton had fought at 140 while Cotto was there, Hatton would definitely have beaten him. At welter now, Cotto would kill him.
You have a valid arguement if he fought a 24year old version of Cotto perhaps. Cotto has improved his skill and deepend his arsenal every fight. I would venture to say that the Cotto we saw against Margarito is the best Cotto we have seen so far.....its just that Cotto forgot to bring a bat into the ring. But he'll remember to bring it if they have a rematch.

A 27year old Cotto with his skills is a better fighter IMO than Hatton was at his prime p4p.

I don't think there's too much in it. No doubt Cotto is the more accomplished all-rounder, but Hatton in his prime would have outworked Cotto and been aggresive all night. It would be a great fight if it were possible.

So, that's why I gave it to Cotto, who isn't tripping over himself to begin with.

For the record, I think that at 140, Cotto MIGHT lose the fight. However, p4p, prime VS prime, I got my money on Cotto.
I see your point on the footwork thing. At 140 the fight is a toss up. If both guys were earlier into their 140 days (Cotto against Pinto - Hatton against Pendleton) I'd say it is a very even match. Cotto was very devastating early on.

One reason I think Cotto is a better fighter at 140, is because any time he got in trouble at his unnatural weight, which was 140, he'd go in and still get the kill. He'd do what he had to do. Whereas, Hatton and his unnnatural weight of 147, he'd hug and hold until he could hold on to a decision.

Cotto is better purely due to versatility.

Only as much of a waste as the thread that sparked it. The forums requires balance.

Any rational person would say that Cotto is the better boxer/fighter/puncher. We could speculate if they fought at 140 and I believe Cotto would have won, but at 147, good god I doubt Hatton would last 6 rounds.
