A source close to Winky Wright informed BoxingScene.com that a possible rematch with Jermain Taylor is something Wright would consider for a November date on HBO. Taylor is "techincally" still scheduled to face his former Olympic teammate, Jeff Lacy, on the tentative date of November 15. A deal for Taylor-Lacy was reached on Wednesday, but the fight quickly stalled when Lacy announced his retirement the following day. Lacy would later tell Florida reporters that his unexpected retirement is due to a dispute with Golden Boy Promotions over his purse for the fight with Taylor. The purse amount is $550,000, which Lacy called an "insult." [details]

I'm gettin tired of stickin up for Winky. This guy has been discussed a few times as an opponent for some star fighters, but every time it never happens cuz he wants too much. I'm convinced we've seen the last of Winky in relevant fights, if not period.Comment

I'll believe this when I see it. Winky turned down a rematch after the draw two years ago, but now all of a sudden is out of other options so comes looking for Taylor again? Plus both of these guys have been mentioned with more prospective fights than anyone else in the last three months (except maybe ODLH).
Also, Taylor's itching to get started at 168. This would just put that off even further. Although, if the money's right, we know he'll do it.Last edited by dstew; 07-28-2008, 01:47 AM.Comment

I just read the article again... there is nothing from Taylor's camp; this is all just Winky's people throwing out a hook, hoping something will bite. He's still trying to work a deal with P. Williams, meanwhile Taylor is still looking at either Lacy or Froch.Comment

I would love to see Winky fight anyone he has been in talks with lately. It seemed like the Hopkins fight ended his career really. I understand he wants to get paid, but the man has to step in the ring soon if wants his career to continue.
Winky is getting up there in age, he cant get anymore money or glory unless he takes a fight. For a guy who claims everyone has ducked him, he doesnt seem to eager to land a fight.Comment
