It hasn't been 5 minutes since I've woken up and I had to come here to see what's being said about the fight, it was a sad outcome for us the puertorricans, but nevertheless I'll admit that this fight certainly lived up to the hype and anyone who says otherwise is just too biased on Cotto. I suffered like the rest with my buddies over at my house, met my parents face to face and shouted "ĦQue cojones!"
when they looked at me expecting me to say something. I returned to the living room and we all said the same thing EVERY puertorrican will probably be talking about for the next several days: Cotto was winning, Cotto was winning, Cotto was winning...but that's not saying to discredit Margarito, he took his beating and showed his sheer determination and chin, and I usually don't like to swear, but my God, what a hell of a ****ing chin!
What pains me is that Cotto was CLEARLY outpointing Margarito throughout the entire fight save for maybe a couple or few rounds tops. However, IF the fight would've gone the distance WITH the 11th round knee dips that Cotto took, it would've made the fight much closer and Margarito could've probably won a decision or at the very least a draw and any outcome would've been epic regardless. I didn't keep score but it seemed like that, didn't it?
The 11th round would've been 10-7, but I just don't see how Cotto could've kept going with over half the round left. One more knockdown or knee and I think Kenny would've waved his arms with Cotto's expression and bloody face.
****ing brutal.
I expect Cotto to come back from this, for what fight? I dunno. But man, Arum took a gamble and lost it. I remember seeing him after the fight talking with Margarito, but as someone mentioned I'm sure this was not the outcome he wanted. Despite it all, I look forward to both of these fighters' future fights and in my eyes, Cotto hasn't lost any credibility and Margarito showed the world why he is so dangerous. What a tremendous battle, and I'm sure this will definitely go down as a classic...
*Sigh*
On a lighter note: That was the last thing I was really looking forward to before classes start, this is no way to start the semester...give me a week off, professor.
