I hope he isn't ruined. I like the way Cotto carry's himself never talks crap about other fighters he just goes out and fights. Margarito surprised the whole world.

To say Cotto took a massive beating is a joke. Margarito took more of a beating than Cotto by far, Cotto was landing hard combinations from the start to almost the finish. Margarito is just one tough mother ****er.

Now **** off Viva Mexico, you are just spamming the forum and are an embarrassment to boxing scene forums. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Joshua Clottey and Paul Williams come to my mind, who have actually flourished since their fights with Margarito.

I doubt Cotto is forever ruined. He may need a warmup fight or two till he's back to prime (or close to), but I think he's fine for the most part. Zab scarred his mouth with those uppercuts and the same cut has badly reopened in all his fights since (minus the glorified sparring session with Gomez), but if he can recover from that gash and improve his performance, then we shouldn't count out his ability to recover from this beating either.

clottey didnt take a beating because he blocked and ran the whole fight. go watch williams in his very next fight after margarito and tell me he was not ruined. the quintana rematch was a fluke. i dont think williams will look good in his next fight against a decent opponent.

To a certain degree, it could be true. History has shown that beatings like these, effect boxers for the remainder of their careers. Wilfredo Gomez was never the same after Salvador Sanchez, Meldrick Taylor was never the same after JCC, Fernando Vargas against Tito, Tito against BHop. I know there's a ton more, but these are the ones off the top of my head. It will be interesting to see how Cotto bounces back.

Did you really call the Quintana rematch a fluke? It may have been only one round, but it was not one punch. Williams had been sparring Collazo and preparing hard to counter with precise telling shots and landed the home run shot early, but there was more than one good shot in there. I can't even see how you would think Margarito could have slowed his career in their fight, he didn't land many hard shots and really didn't find much of a target at all until the late rounds. I couldn't take anything away from Margarito's great performance last night even if I wanted to, but no need for you to go nuthugging buddy.

margarito doesnt just beat fighters. he ruins them.

Margarito took just as much punishment if not more than Cotto, difference is that Margarito is incredibly durable and can sustain a good punch.

Margarito was getting tagged left and right... he was getting outclassed. Margaritos head was snapping everytime Cotto hit him. Stamina became the issue, the relentless pressure caught up with Cotto.

Cotto will be back, but we will have to see how his confidence is going to be affected.

How can you get ruined when you've won a fight?

Cotto might not be ruined, but he's gonna lose some confidence. He knows he can be beaten and that's gonna make him more cautious and not quite as aggressive in future fights. I'm sure he's got more big fights and belts in his future tho. But if they fought again, I'd still pick Tony over him.
