Yep. Tony wasn't lettin him keep the posture he needs to crank up his body blows. The danger of the uppercut was there for the shorter guy.

But he COMPLETELY forgot about the body, probably because he thought he was going to score a KO with all those head punches.

Didnt land almost any left hooks to the body. Did no softening what so ever. Whereas Margarito was constantly pounding that body. So while Cotto was exhausted late, Margarito was just starting to get strong.

In a rematch, i think we could be looking at a different fight down the stretch. Hopefully they make the fight happen next year after both guys have had a fight
Imagine what margarito would do to Cotto's head if he did that. Second point, how many fighters you have seen going to the body WHILE going back against a stronger opponent? Not many, and there's a reason for that too. Body punching exposes your head, and that's something you don't want against someone who is stronger than you.

Hey Kball, i noticed it by the 2nd round that he saw margarito as a walking head as if his body didn't exist

Thats what I kept yelling at the TV. Go to the body! He never did and I think he just felt like it was so easy to hit upstairs. In a rematch he has no shot unless he goes downstairs to stop the Tijuana Tornado

Cotto fought damn near the perfect fight for 6-8 rounds and was beaten. There's nothing for him in the rematch but more pain and a quicker KO. When you hit your opponent with everything you have and he looks at you like "That's it?", that breaks your spirit and will.
You have a point there. Cotto didn't want to fight inside but he didn't have enough quality opponents against who he had to fight a boxer's fight. Old Mosley and Gomez couldn't prepare Cotto for really having to box for his life. So he couldn't do it. That's the downside of protecting fighters. More money for promoters because of more hype but in the end, it just fails...

Besides, he would have been too open to the uppercut had he tried to go to the body.

cotto ignored the body because he could hit the head so cleanly. margarito got a head made of rocks.

In order to beat Marg you need one of two things:

1 - A fighter who is as big and strng and with a great chin like him

                    or

2 - A phenomenal boxer who can slip and move the WHOLE fight frustrating Marg until the 12th round and winning a decision. Cotto is neither.
