When you go to the body, you leave your head open. Ideally it's smart to go to the body, but Cotto's spacing wasn't great for most of the night. He was fighting at a range that made it easier for Margs to get him, esp off the ropes.
Although he won some of those exchanges, he got abused doing them because Margarito would take them and counter like a mofo.

Margs started going to the body later because he was willing to eat more shots to the head and just wore the man down.

well skill wise it was Cotto all night but Margs was just walking tru ever hard punch, It was amazing to see...

Cotto was moving way to much to avoid being hit and he gassed doing so, i think he should of tied him up more and slowed his momentum...

I think that this is where Floyd differs from most guys, he will clinch, hold and make you miss more and preserve himself more while potshotting you on your way in, never can you get off 130 punches in a round....

Cotto was faster then Margs, Zab was faster then Cotto, hell Sugar Shane was faster then Cotto so I would stand to think that Floyd would make Margs look silly...

Now don't get me wrong, I did not say Floyd would beat Margs but lets get this clear, I dont think he wants it with Floyd or wen they stick a mic in his face, he would call PBF out....

Only guy in Arhums camp talking about Floyd is Arhum himself and he does not have to get in there with dude so he should shut up...

in watching the fight again on dvr im reminded of vasquez marquez 1 in that even though cotto got tko'd it seems it was the injuries that drained him the most his nose was bad and his eye was cut, vasquez couldn't continue after the seventh but if that didn't happen who knows what's gonna happen. margarito made it happen and it was his fight. just doesn't mean it he can count on that slowing cotto down next time. he's extremely flawed he chose to defend his body instead of his head. he took more puches than cotto and most were clean and to the head and taking head shots like that ruin careers not running out of energy from injuries moving and some good body shots. cotto can come back but margarito is gonna turn into a ****** if he keeps fighting like his iron chin is defense. I would love to see two more fights and I still got cotto. he's good at fixing his game and changing. I really believe that he will win. we'll see who's really done.

Cotto's obviously an excellent fighter, but it clearly wasn't luck at play last night. Margarito's legendary chin and relentless pressure were in full display.

The fact that Cotto wore out in the later rounds wasn't due to his lack of preparation but instead was due to Margarito's non-stop ripping of Cotto's body with power punches from the opening bell. He broke Cotto down from the body, took away his legs where he couldn't run anymore, then finished him off with uppercuts and combinations to the head -- a classic fight plan.

He was like a madman attacking Cotto's body, almost exclusively at times, and walked through Cotto's shots like they had nothing behind them. I don't think we've ever seen someone walk through so many of Cotto's clean shots without showing any effect whatsoever like Margarito did last night. You have to tip your hat to the guy.

I can't believe people bashed on Floyd when he won tittles in 130 up to 154 skipping only 140 and handling bigger guys almost ALL HIS CAREER and compared him with Cotto. I can say Cotto's punching ability is world class, his footwork, angles (defense angles like giving the shoulder instead of standing square) are not, his defense apart from slipping a few punches in a flashy way was: retreating and covering up. But he's still young and will comeback i'm sure... He just needs to train harder and better.
ROFL! You are too much. Floyds defense is the GOAT because he ties people up? If that is your criteria, Floyds defense is amateurish compared to Hopkins.

Cotto left crying like a lil'biatch! He outboxed Margarito but at the end of the day I knew he wouldn't hang with the tornado in the later rounds. Hope to see Cotto back soon though against Berto!!!!!

agreed im one of the biggest margarito supporters but i wont hate on Cotto like a lot of people here are doing because cotto fought well. he just couldnt handle margaritos pressure and power which not many boxers can. Cotto will be back no doubt better than ever!

I mean it's really easier said than done. Margarito was doing a decent job of shielding his body (thus all of the head shots Cotto landed) and he's a taller, high volume kind of guy. Cotto would have taken many more shots early on had he tried to sustain an effective body attack throughout.

All of that being said, he did land some really good body shots in there, he just couldn't land them often enough because he had to defend himself along the way. He doubled the left hook/uppercut to the body and head successfully and landed some very hard shots down there in spots. Too few and far between though when Margarito was applying that constant pressure.

Cotto took the openings Margarito gave him, just unfortunate that Tony's cranium is made of steel.
