You know the funny thing is....

Everyone's prediction's were right, apart from the actual outcome, which is all that matters in the end, but, everyone predicted exactly what happened and how the fight would go!

Cotto really did make Margarito look rather second rate and hackish, but, Margarito's persistence and dogged determination and his conditioning is what won him the fight. Cotto looked brilliant for the first half and then some but his conditioning left something to be desired. Whether he couldn't breathe because of his busted up nose or not, I don't know.

Margarito just didn't and wouldn't stop coming and he took a hell of a beating. That guys chin is pretty amazing. I'm not sure I'd want to be him in twenty years though. One thing I was surprised at was that Cotto didn't do much body work. It would have slowed Marg down for the latter half of the fight.

Anyway, big props to both guys for a classic fight! Both showed what has made them the prominent WW's of today. I hope Cotto takes some time off and decides to come back strong and I hope that Margarito gets the big fights he deserves.

One thing that has now been shown though, a fight with Mayweather would be an utter embarrassment for Margarito. Mayweather has the conditioning and better boxing skills to do what Cotto did for the first half, for the whole twelve rounds without too much trouble. Marg is just a bit too slow and unskilled. Marg should try and get a fight with Hoya. That would provide some great action I think. I would see Marg winning that in a rather similar fashion to the Cotto fight.

Where to now for Cotto and what fight next for Margarito?

Two things impressed me in this fight:

    1. Cotto absolutely POUNDING away at Margarito
    2. Margarito's chin is god-like

Damn right it is! I was trying to think if anyone could hurt him at WW at the moment? If DL Hoya landed a flush left hook would that do some damage or could Margarito take it and keep coming? They mentioned Mosley after the fight as a possible opponent. For some reason I don't think Mosley would be a good opponent next. Mosley could possibly box his way to a decision, but, if he couldn't against Cotto I don't think he could keep it up against Marg for twelve. Margarito is so much bigger as well. It surprised me how much bigger he was than Cotto.

Oscar vs Margarito. I would actually think that fight would be very exciting. If DL Hoya can hurt Marg with a left hook, and I think it's very possible he could, then he could probably win, but, if DL Hoya can't hurt him, which is also very possible, then Marg would just storm over him towards the end of the fight. I doubt that Margarito would be able to knock DLHoya out but he would probably give him a good beating if DHoya couldn't hurt him. But, that would be the big question! Could Marg take a flush left hook on the chin from Oscar? I say no but I would really, really like to find out.
