    Left Hooky

ESPN Wednesday night fight between Jeff Lacy and Epafanio Mendoza was entertaining yet disappointing. What fight were the judges watching? At best the fight was a draw. I scored it 96-94 and a point could have been deducted from Lacy for wrestling Mendoza to the canvas. Lacy was consistently hurt by a C-Class fighter. To put it mildly, Lacy is a shot fighter. A left hook is very ineffective if it's telegraphed and your opponent has a stiff jab (which Mendoza doesn't.) Since Lacy's lost to Calzaghe, he has fought three C-class fighters and unofficially lost two if not all three of those bouts. We know that Lacy is entertaining, has the look similiar to the likes of his colleague Edison Maranda but muscles do not win boxing matches. Next Lacy is lined up to fight Jermain Taylor. What a field day this is going to be for Bad Intentions. One can't blame Taylor for not fighting Carl Froch when he has easy pickings in "Left Hooky" Lacy. Lastly, in Lacy's pre-fight interview, I detected a slight slur of speech. I trust that Team Left Hooky will do the right thing by him...
