Why Didn't Roy Jones Let His Hands Go Against Glen Johnson?

Watched again, in mid rounds Roy just seemed to watch Glen as they both didnt do much, Roy had to know he was far behind, wonder who else Roy faced in the past that applied good pressure, in old age pressure has seemed to haunt Roy and Hopkins.

Well Glen maybe took 1 round off in the mid rounds and slacked a minute or two in another round but Roy had been hurt a little bit at one point and seemed to just want to let Johnson tire because the few big combinations he hit Johnson with didn't phase him at all. IMO Jones knew he wasn't tip top going into the fight and when things didn't immediately go his way he knew he was in for some trouble.

He didn't want his dad getting credit for that.
His dad called him on the telephone before the fight saying that he should let his hands go.
When it came time to fight, he did the exact opposite.
He did it so Roy Sr. wouldn't get any credit.

I think he was still mentally messed up, since he was just coming off a knockout loss. I don't think he wanted to risk anything by getting into any unnecessary exchanges. Pre-Tarver i don't think Jones wouldn've had much trouble with Johnson.

He had just got badly KOed against Tarver, he was probably too scared to.

Nah I think Johnson would still KO or decision the Jones that fought Tarver in the first fight. I think the pre-Ruiz Roy wins a wide UD over Johnson.
