Pound for pound, Johnson is number two on my list after Robinson. He was just so ahead of his time. Based on the things he had to go through to finally get to the world title, fighting the best opposition of his era and becoming the first black heavyweight champion. He was defintitely the man.

Top 20 at least, his style was very futuristic for his time, he was great at feinting and parrying shots and used his height really well.

And he had to overcome racism.

i know i might get flamed for this but...... i have him outside top 10 and only top 25.

i admit i don't know much about him aside from a few fights i've seen and the STANLEY KETCHEL MYTH but i just can't rate him that high.

i know he's legendary for his defense but i just don't have him in my top 10. some would say he didn't really fight the BEST fighters available......and when i say BEST i mean the other black fighters of the era that didn't get the chance he was lucky enough to get.

You should check out his documentary, its called unforgiveable blackness. It will tell you everything that you need to know. Its two disk and i bought it when it first came out. It will blow your mind.

johnson accomplished a lot. he became the first black champion but he also set a barrier for other black fighters because of his attitude outside of the ring. his style was advanced and i would have him somewhere in the top 20

what others may not know, is that when he was an up and coming boxer learning his trade, he used to get into the ring blindfolded with other black fighters fighting purely to entertain whites who were placing bets for these unsanctioned underground fights

                It was a great documentary.

He had to leave the USA or get sent to jail because it was illegal at the time for a black man to transport white women across state lines.

Definitely, it gives you an depth analysis on his entire career from the begining to the end. It tells you information that you can not find anywhere else. For example, i never knew that Ketchel and Johnson were best friends at the time they fought. They went to several whore houses together, drank on many occasions and hung out. It also shows how Johnson has already beat the best black fighters that were around that time. Joe Jeanette 5 times in one year and 9 times overall and also had impressive wins over Sam Langford and Sam Mc Vea, Langford, Mc Vea and Jeanette were the greatest black boxers in that time period and Johnson fought them all. He was truely a legend and i personally rank him over Ali pound for pound.

i didn't know him and ketchel was friends.

i know they had an "agreement" for jack to take it easy on him at first though.
