In all honesty did we put to much stock in Calzaghe....

beating Lacy? I mean Joe destroyed him, no question, but i am starting to think that Lacy is nothing special at all! I just won't buy into the whole Calzaghe ruined him, and it made him THIS bad! I think Joe ruined his confidence, but he just is really bad! I am a pretty good fan of Joe, but i am starting to have a few thoughts about how good of wins Lacy, and even Kessler (to a point were)! In all honesty neither Lacy or Kessler beat anyone of elite status. He struggled mightily with Bernard as well. Not sure what to think in regards to him being as good as i previously thought. Not trying to start a flame, these are just a few issues i felt i wanted to discuss here.

Lacy was tailor made for Calzaghe but he wasn't nearly as bad as he is now pre-Calzaghe, I think Calzaghe took a lot out of him.

Calzaghe fights in an era when his division is full of bums. One of the most overrated "champions" we'll ever see. He's no different than Wlad Klitschko.

Fair enough, but i don't see it taking that much from him. Some for sure, but not that much!

That kind of beating takes a lot out of a fighter, sometimes a fighter never recovers from those beatings.

I wish most calzaghe fans understood that. If Calzaghe wasn't given so much credit he probably would have been fighting tougher opponents.

Yes, but it's not like his chin is shot or he quits, or mentally loses it. That leads me to thinking he is just not that good. It's more a matter of opinion at this point i suppose. I guess if Mikkel can beat an elite guy, or Joe can beat Pavlik, or Dawson i will feel a bit better!

that is actually a very good comparison. they are both products of weak divisions/the other fighters around them getting too old. both are skilled guys but still guys that couldn't hang with elite company

I think beating Hopkins, even though he is 43 years old, is proof enough that Calzaghe is elite.

I don't think Lacy has recovered mentally from the Calzaghe fight, he isn't as confident in his abilities anymore.
