I actually made this thread 2 months ago and some people liked it so Im bringing it back now since its fight time, while adding a couple of more lines to it.
------------------
This should definatly be a great throwback type of fight. 2 guys IMO, who are very good but have yet to be proven to be great. Many will say that Cotto is and he might very well be as he has improved greatly with each fight but Im not a 100% sold just yet. I am 90% sold but not a 100 just yet.
This fight is so 50/50 to me. I think Cotto is superior in terms of overall skill. If it was just about flat out skill then he probably wins this fight easily but we all know that its not just about that or guys like Zab would be P4P. I could see Cotto pretty much duplicating what Clottey did to Margarito early but keep it up for 12 rounds or as long as it last. On the other hand, I could also see Margarito do to Cotto what N'Dou did except for at a much higher level. I know Im in the complete minority but I thought N'Dou gave Cotto fits and may have actually even won that fight. The problem is that it was at 140 where Cotto clearly wasnt as good and he is in his prime now while he was still learning the ropes at that time.
Margarito is a great pressure fighter but he's going to be walking down a puncher which is never great to do and unlike Cintron, this guy can get his shots off at any time. Margarito is a great puncher but despite what many think, I feel that Cotto is clearly the harder and more precise puncher. Margarito is not a 1 punch KO guy and Cotto may not be all the way either but I think he's closer to that then Margarito. Both N'Dou and Mosley had some success putting pressure on Cotto, e****ally late and I think that Margarito can definatly do better then them. The 1 thing that scares me about Cotto is what has always scared me. He still has never ever been in the ring with someone just as big and just as physical as him. We know that Margarito wont be in for a shock but it could be a shock to Cotto's system when he gets hit by a really big man, or he lands a punch and Margarito still keeps coming, or if they get in the clinch and Margarito can push him around some.
The other thing that scares me about Cotto and no one really talks about it but his stamina is not great. He gets away with it because he blows most guys out but he was tired and basically on the move at the end of the Cotto & N'Dou fight. Margarito is always strong at the end and will be coming hard. If the fight is physical and the scores are close after 8 rounds or even 5-3 Cotto, you still would have to worry if he can hold off a big phyical pressure style WW like Margarito. At the end of the day I will go with Cotto because I think that he's on the top of his game right now and he's certainly capable of carving Margarito up and doing it with power but I am a little worried that he's getting to ****y. Hopfully he just did that because it was Gomez because if he clowns like that in this fight then he will be in trouble.

Thats what I wrote last time and this is what Ill add. Max said something in the Countdown special that I also have been thinking off for the past couple of weeks. Max said that he would not want to be Cotto. He said that he would not want to be the man going against Margarito in a fight where Margarito thinks he has arrived. I feel that way too. Margarito is very tough minded and he is very proud. Cotto's basically had his stuff on a silver platter but Margarito has been waiting his whole life for this moment. You will have to go through hell to beat him on this night. This is the fight where Margarito has felt like he's arrived and will be a big money star if he wins. I also think Margarito has more will then Cotto.
I did just rewatch Margarito-Cintron and its just so hard to judge Margarito. The one thing about him is that he has never faced a great boxer. The only one who comes close is Santos and he always gave Margarito hell. I say this because Margarito is still very slow and I saw at times that when Cintron circled and punched then Margarito had some trouble. Cotto can do that all fight and much better then Cintron. I could see Cotto trying to put on a boxing clinic. The problem is that Margarito will still keep punching non stop so eventually he will get to you and land but I do think a good boxer with power like Cotto can box circles around Margaito alot of times. The reason is because margarito at times looks like Tito in that he has to be set to punch and if you can circle and make him have to keep picking up his feet then I think you can literaly box circles aound him. Again, the problem is can you keep it up for 12 rounds and for 3min a round. Thats much harder to do then people think because Margarito doesnt let you breathe. You could tell that Cintron was so uncomfortable because he almost fights like a HW and at a HW pace. He's use to landing hard punching and taking rest in the ring when he wants but Margarito wouldnt allow it. Every time Cintron would land a hard shot and then step back, Margarito would walk right back into his face and you could tell that it made Cintron so uncomfortable. I thought N'Dou did that at times to Cotto and if that happeneds in this fight then Margarito will put a hurting on him. It just a hard fight to judge and I really wouldnt be surprise by any ending except for maybe a quick KO. I think both guys are on top there games too much for that
