    Exclusive Interview: Andre Berto

    EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: ANDRE BERTO
    By G. Leon

    Berto-Forbes coming soon?

GL: What's the latest and greatest with Andre Berto? "The latest and greatest is I've been on the move. I've been staying low key, moving around and handling business in between this fighting stuff. I'm discussing things with the team and it looks like I'm going to be back at the end of September or beginning of October. In the meantime I'm going to be in New York on August 6 to have a meet and greet with the fans at I believe BB Kings. I'll also be there for the fights in New York. I'm looking forward to that with the media and the fans, so I definitely want everybody to come out and check me out."

GL: Who will you be fighting next?

Andre Berto: "Steve Forbes name has come up. I don't think it has been solidified yet because we're still trying to get the dates cleared up and then we can make the fight happen."

GL: Is Forbes the kind of opposition you were hoping to face in your first defense? Or would you have preferred to unify with either of the winners of Cotto-Margarito or Judah-Clottey?

AB: "Definitely, those guys have fights coming up and I doubt they'll be ready by the time I get ready to fight in September or October. I need to get me a fight in between. Steve Forbes is the kind of guy that everybody knows is a tough opponent, he gave De La Hoya a really good show. He's never been stopped and he's never been knocked down so that's a big fight for me."

GL: Who do you like in Cotto-Margarito?

AB: "It's hard to say. It depends on who comes in better shape. I think Cotto is going to show a different side of him and show people he can box. I don't think it'll be a good idea for him to stand in there and **** with Margarito. But if he decides to do that, I believe it's going to be Margarito's night. If Cotto boxes just a little bit, I think it will be Cotto's night. It all depends on what game plans these guys come out with."

    GL: And Zab Judah-Clottey?

AB: "Zab Judah-Clottey, oh man. Zab has the edge with experience so I'm going to go with him. But Clottey is not one to look past and if Zab doesn't come completely focused and in total shape it'll be a long night."

GL: If you're successful in your next fight which of the champions would you like to unify with the most?

AB: "Either one of them. I don't have no preference at all. Right now Cotto-Margarito is the biggest fight. First we're going to get my fight finalized, get that business taken cared of first and foremost and then everything else will come."

    GL: Closing thoughts?

AB: "August 6 if you want to see me in person and meet me in person and get my comments about the next few fights, come out to New York BB Kings and I will definitely be there."

I wanna see Berto get thru 1 or 2 defenses against reasonably good comp, then step up wit the big boys. In the next year I think we'll find out if he's ready to be elite yet. Right now I don't see him beatin any of the top WW's.

Commend Berto's Handlers for letting him get his feet wet without taking unnecessary Huge risks. He is still pretty young and going through the motions. when the time is right he'll be moved along just. after Forbes he vshould move onto someone like Collazo another skilled, yet safe fighter. we all know whwt happened to Fernando Vargas > He was definitely rushed along way too fast and his career never rebounded. Don't wanna see this happen to Berto
