He was the unified WBA and WBC champion and the #1 contender in the division. Calzaghe was the liner and legit titlist and he did the thing Mayweather didn't do after he beat Hatton, fight the #1 contender.
Judah and Baldomir might have been linear titlists, but they did not (especially Badlomir) have better resumes then Kessler. Judah maybe, but not Baldomir (even if Baldomir's resume is good)Comment

Again, this brings us directly back to the point of this thread...He was the unified WBA and WBC champion and the #1 contender in the division. Calzaghe was the liner and legit titlist and he did the thing Mayweather didn't do after he beat Hatton, fight the #1 contender.

Judah is ****....but he was miraculously a stellar opponent for Cotto.
Delahoya was old....but Hopkins was a spring chicken for calzaghe.
Kessler is a God because he had a title, but baldomir's title was meaningless.
Sooooo, now that Calzaghe is at LHW, he is gonna take on only the best LHW's ....right?Comment

Tarver
Johnson
Toney
Green
Jones and Hopkins were notoriously hard to come to a deal with. Calzaghe also didn't fight Collins, I discount Ottke because he's rubbish.Comment

It's the casual fans that go with the popular opinion, because the only fighters they are aware of are Mayweather, De La Hoya, Hatton, Tyson and Holyfield. The hardcore fans have a much more diverse range of fighters to pick and chose there opinions of.The Mainstream Hardcore fans, are the problem they are not real fans...Just **** riders...
The Mainstream Hardcore Fans = The So called Hardcore Fans who go with Popular Opinion. They are basically followers. Wheater it is HATE or Support they just go with the Hardcore Mainstream TALKING POINTS. Because they lack the originality to be themselves, and think for themselves.Comment

This is true in some cases but Mayweather is number 1 therefore more is expected of him, it's that way in almost all sports. If Lewis Hamilton, Alonso came in 6th it would be a disapppointment whereas if Kubitser (can't spell his name) came in 6th it would be a good thing. If Ronaldo managed to miss a penalty whereas a less impressive soccer/football player missed one then obviously the more disappointment would point toward Ronaldo, If Federer on Nadal were knocked out by lesser opposition in the opening round it owuld be more disappointing than Djockvic gettin Knocked out in the first round of the tournament.Again, this brings us directly back to the point of this thread...

Judah was a good opponent for Cotto because he was stepping up in class an in weight (kinda) it was Cotto first real test at 147, Mayweather fight with Judah was Judah coming off a loss to Baldo not abad fight for Mayweather but there were better ones available for Mayweather. De La Hoya had beaten Mayorga of recent after gettin KO'd whereas Hopkins dismantled Tarver and Wright two fighters on the top 10 P4P, De La Hoya was NOT on the P4P list. Kessler is a better fighter than Baldomir. The point is while non of the fighter Mayweather beat ar ebad opponents he had better available opponents for him to fight at the time. Cotto had Judah to test the waters at 147, Calzaghe was clearing out his division, Hopkins was a top 5 P4P entrant.Comment

Judah was coming off a loss to Baldo and fought Mayweather. Judah was coming off two losses and a NC and sixteen months of inactivity and fought Cotto.Judah was a good opponent for Cotto because he was stepping up in class an in weight (kinda) it was Cotto first real test at 147, Mayweather fight with Judah was Judah coming off a loss to Baldo not abad fight for Mayweather but there were better ones available for Mayweather. .
You mention that Cotto was stepping up in weight. Um, OK. But wasn't Mayweather pretty new to 147 when he fought Judah? I mean, Sharmba was a tune-up...right?Comment

Mayweather had just beaten Mitchell beforehand.Comment

I'm not discrediting Mayweather's wins at all. I'm just saying Kessler's wins are better because he fought the better opposition in their respective divisions. You could argue Judah's is better, but he has spinks and rivera and they are not better they (well spinks is) then Andrade and Mundine.Again, this brings us directly back to the point of this thread...

The judah fight for Cotto wasn't either. De La Hoya and Hopkins both were past their primes, but Hopkins was older, but had the better wins of late.Comment
