As the saying goes, a fighter is only as good as his last fight. I can't see toney beating wlad.

      i don't either.

hard to outbox someone who's 10 inches taller and has an extreme reach advantage.

especially if you have no power. ask byrd.

it'd have been interesting to see how the toney that beat jirov at cruiser or the 217 lb. toney that koed holyfield would've done back then though.

toney does have his chin and superior skills.

A younger, slickter toney might do the trick but the toney we just saw wont have the stamina to withstand the bigger and, as you say, 10 inches taller wlad. Now that you mentioned chris, whatever happened to that guy? He fighting toney at this stage of their careers might be interesting to the purists but would be a bore to causal fans.

Toney is a more talented fighter than Wlad, way more talented. He's also forty next month, and despite this big win, the seeming rejuivinance, his now under-control weight issues, there are no certainties with James. Winning big is almost the worst thing that can happen to him, plus; he generally doesn't learn from his mistakes. I wouldn't be surprised if he ballooned again and weighs at like 240 plus for his next outing. He should be kept busier; he wants to fight in 3 weeks, a month, Goosen should get it done, even if he's fighting bums. That'd be perfect for him, he used to do that at 160 and 168, after rolling out Nunn he was in with dangerous Reggie Johnson six weeks later.

This Wlad fight, I cant even comprehend it almost... Toney would make him miss a lot, like he does with everyone, and Wlad wouldn't be too difficult to counter. I don't think it'd be one sided at all. But the dimensions are awkward, Wlad could paw and paw, and drop right hands in, even if they dont land they'll maintain range. At HW Toney isn't as good as closing distance like he used to be as he has to trudge forward shifting that considerable bulk. But it's winnable if he fights out of his skin, and negates Wlads natural advantages. Not easy. But JT has defied logic his whole career

he's shot. he got knocked out his last fight at 175. he just looks too unhealthy at that weight. tough to go from heavy to light heavy. ask roy.

i loved byrd. the only time i rooted against byrd was against tua and ike. at that moment in time i thought the division was ike's and tua's for the taking and how those 2 would dominate and fight 2-3 more wars against each other as champs. boy was i so wrong........

byrd was great. takes a lot of courage to take a .22 and shoot it out with guys with *******s. byrd was not as boring as people think. if his opponents come at him it's an exciting fight. problem is they try not to because they'd get embarasses missing him and you can't expect byrd to slug , he just doesn't have the power to do that........

Haha poor old UltimateBoxa, he seemed like a friendly enough guy if he just left the drama queen antics outside the forum, at least he was passionate about his favourite boxer.

james would take him the distance for sure.....and if the james that beat holyfield or the james in the 3rd round aginst rahman today turns up he could well KO wlad...he had rahman going back with some of those rights he landed
