Talk about a flip flopper. Jones is great, Jones is shot, Jones is great again. I want Kelly Pavlik, Kelly Pavlik does not deserve to fight me, Kelly Pavlik may be my next fight. Joe is a toolshed, overrated, you know the American stance. One thing is for sure the guy is like every other boxer/entrepenuer; if he can make a **** ton of money boxing, they guy is gonna keep doing it. This retirement talk after Roy is "rubbish".
Joe Calzaghe = Massachusetts Senator John Kerry

Only Calzaghe's fans on this page have been pathetic enough to let this flip flopping slide.Last edited by bsrizpac; 07-16-2008, 08:12 PM.

I think this is likely true. Don't be too hard on Joe though, he is after all a boxer and (luckily) not a Senator.Comment
He's called Roy out for years. lol.
But dude come on, that was lame how he never wanted to leave Wales.

Calzaghe's problem was that he was the champ of 168 which equalled paydays and to pursue a fight with Jones he would have had to give that up and move to LHW where he would hold no belt, had no US name and would thus have little or no bargaining power. Also, the prospect of facing Jones would have been the only compelling reason to take this course (no-one knew Tarver and Johnson were that good until relatively recently) and with no bargaining power, the fight might never have materialised. Its not a perfevt scenario, but its pretty understandable. I actually think that for his own career he probably took exactly the right course. Had he moved up and say beat Tarver and Johnson I'm pretty sure those two would now be written of as journeymen, and I bet people would say he ducked Lacy and Kessler!
Of course, had he moved up it might very well have transpired that Roy would have faced Joe in 2003 instead of Tarver, and just imagine that scenario if you will!Comment
