Shane Mosley: I KNOW I CAN BEAT COTTO!

PC: How is everything going my man?

    SM: Everything is going great.

PC: I'm sure you're back in the gym training. How is that coming along?

SM: I keep myself in shape so I'm not really training, training yet, but I am doing things right now. My son is getting ready to fight so I help him out sometimes doing little things with him and me and my father have been doing some drills so little things here and there.

PC: What weight class do you see your son making his mark at?

SM: Well, he fights at 152 right now. He has 3 fights and he's 3-0. I think there is one fight that is already on YouTube. He's doing alright. There are still some things that I want him to work on, but he's doing good.

PC: How did you stay mentally focused and not get too deterred with the Zab Judah fight falling apart so close to fight time?

SM: First of all, the Zab Judah fight was kind of crazy for it to happen like that with him hurting his arm and all of that stuff. I always try to look at the positive side. The positive is that I kept myself in good shape. I was training and working hard and I was ready for the next fight. If I was just sitting around not doing nothing and I say, "Okay, now I want to fight," then that could be a problem. I'll be sharper for this fight because of that extra training I got for the Zab fight. I've had some good, young sparring partners helping me sharpen my tools. I spar with Austin Trout…actually, I spar with both of them and they just fought each other, Austin Trout and Buddy Tyson. They will be world champions when they get a little older. I work with everybody. When I get in the ring, I see these guys that are real good and fast and I get with them to see if I still got it.

PC: Is that something you would like to do when you hang the gloves up?

SM: I love to do that. It's like going out and playing one-on-one basketball or something like that. It's just like going to play ball. I used to play a lot of racketball too.

PC: Damn, you're all around, huh Shane?

SM: I'm just a competitor. When I get in the ring and I fight, it's just being a competitor.

PC: You've never ducked a fight. You could have easily gone with an easier route than Mayorga. What made Mayorga the guy for you?

SM: For Zab, he's a slick southpaw so I had to get a lot of those guys to spar with, and actually smaller guys to try and maintain and keep my speed up to see the shots come in. Mayorga is a right-handed fighter and my ultimate goal was to get back in the ring with Cotto or to fight Mayweather. Mayweather retires and Bob Arum refuses to let Cotto get back in the ring with me. He has his hands full with Margarito; that's going to be a good fight too. Mayorga is a 154-pound fighter. He's dangerous, he's a right-hander and he's a crazy type of fighter. I was looking to fight a strong right-hander and that's a good look for me to fight a strong right-hander.

PC: I'm sure going on the press tour with Judah kind of prepared you for the tough looks and street talk, but Mayorga always goes over the line. Will we see the typical Shane reaction of playing it low-key or will you fire back?

SM: You never know what you're going to see out of me. Anything can happen. I respect Mayorga. He does what he does, although I don't really think he means everything he says like he's crazy, but whatever. I'll let him play his card and I'll play my card and we'll see what happens, ****.

PC: I know you will probably end your career as a welterweight. That division is stacked with guys like Berto, Williams, Margarito and Cotto. Is the Cotto rematch the fight you want most?

SM: I just want to fight Cotto. I'll fight a few other guys, but you know me. I'll just about fight anybody, but I don't know, we'll see. My main focus is Cotto and Mayweather, but now, my main focus is to figure out who I want to fight now. I know Cotto is the main one. I know I can beat Cotto. I know I can get him and I think Bob Arum knows that now. I just want to prove to the world that I'm the better fighter and the best man out there today. It seems like now I'm being ducked.

PC: You gave everyone there chance and now they're ducking you.

SM: Yeah, it's like hold up. Everybody is lined up to fight everybody and they are all matched up and the only one I can come up with is Mayorga because he is a tough fighter. He's out of my weight class anyway. It seems like I have to fight people at 154 and 160. I can't even fight people at 47. I'm just trying to give the fans what they want to see. They want to see great fights and action and I will supply them with that action.

PC: I think one of your best assets is your great chin and it may be a little overlooked because of your overall skill. What would you like to be remembered for when it's all said and done?

SM: A hard fighter and a fighter that would fight anybody; a fighter that gives his 100% all. When I fight, you feel the situation. Some guys, they go out there and fight to get points or they just want to get by and survive. My type of fight is the last man standing. I want to fight to the end. True enough, I'll box here and there and be smart, but at the end of the day, I don't go out there to outbox a guy. I go out there thinking in my head I'm going to knock this guy out. If it happens, it happens and if it doesn't, it doesn't. My mentality is to get the knockout.

PC: I always look forward to a Shane Mosley fight. I can't wait to see you back in there in October. Is there anything you would like to say in closing?

SM: Just stay tuned. October 11th, it's going to be a nice fight. I will be training very hard as usual. I'm amped and excited to get back in the ring and duke it out again

Then why didn't you demand a rematch right away? Shane Mosley is an idiot.

It's hard to watch Barkley swing a golf club. With all his money, connections, how the **** is he not any better than that?
