Roy Jones is simply on another level to James "fat" Toney.

Don't get me wrong,Toney was good.but he was simply inferior to Roy Jones Jr. in almost every way.

Toney's apologists will continue to excuse their hero's loss to the superior Roy Jones by claiming that he was a walking corpse come fight time.

The irony is Toney's performance against Iran barkley, which is widely regarded as being his greatest ever, came against a barkley that was reported to having major issues with making the weight himself. Not to mention the fact that barkley was quite a few years past it himself.

However, this tells us NOTHING WE DON'T KNOW. Yes, he had weight issues. He had them in EVERY FIGHT OF HIS CAREER. It was only a problem when he lost to Jones. Gee, I wonder why?
I love that the article says James had his sights set on Heavyweight!

LOL! James' stomach had its sights set on HW!

Tobey should've fought roy at 168. he would have had a better chance to win.

Montell was giving James fits in the ring right after the olympics. Jackie had Montell down to Galaxy for a few days and the sparring was incredible. Montell just had James # from the get go. No matter how good you are there will always be a style that gives you fits. Montell was that to James. Man, James exploded each time when leaving the ring. Ranting and raving, I wish I could remember what he ws saying. My trainer and I just smiled at each other, chuckled and went on with our work..........Rockin'

According to you guys - in a span of four months - he went down to 168, up to 214, then back down to 168.

            Right.

This is James Toney we're talking about. He ALWAYS had weight issues. It was only an excuse when he got his ass kicked. This is the same James Toney who ballooned to 230lbs a year before fighting Jirov and then ****** himself down to 190. I suppose if he lost then it would've been an excuse too.
Damn straight. Toney never had any discipline with his weight. Roy was simply better, no excuse.

Toney regularly ballooned and lost weight, why does it make a difference against Jones compared to his 46 other wins?
The balloning and losing weight makes him vulnerable to fast athletic fighters same as Duran was against Leonard at Distance, Cooto against Pacquiao and Hatton against Mayweather. All of those fighters go up massively in weight between fights

Toney may have been weight drained but that is do to his conditioning and it was his responsibilty.

His biggest wins at supermiddleweight were over Iran Barkley and Charles Williams. Williams was a light heavyweight that starved himself to make 168 and Barkley had just won the WBA belt at 175 but fought as a cruiserweight before dropping all that weight to fight Toney as a supermiddleweight. Toney wouldn't say he beat those guys because they had to lose weight so it wouldn't be fair to say thats why he lost to Jones Jr.

                    Toney is a great fighter

                    Jones is a great fighter

Jones had a great win over Toney

Nothing to take away from that win - yes he was weakened but discredit that from toneys career not jones

Totally legit, not controversial win in anyway for Jones.
Its not Joe Calzaghes fault that Roy Jones ducked him from 2000-2008. Roy fought zags when he did and lost.
