Alexander Povetkin: "Sykes in My Way of Klitschko"

Alexander Povetkin (15-0, 11 KOs) claimed he is taking one step at a time ahead of this weekend´s fight against Taurus Sykes. The 2004 Olympic gold medal winner faces “The Bull” in his home city of Chekhov, Russia on Saturday night. If Povetkin defeats his American opponent, he will be in for a showdown with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Povetkin became the IBF´s mandatory challenger in January after defeating Chris Byrd and Eddie Chambers in a four-way elimination tournament. However, right now his full focus is on Saturday´s meeting with Sykes. “There is a lot at stake for me,” Povetkin said at today´s press conference at the ITAR-TASS offices in Moscow. “I need to win to get the Klitschko fight. And I will allow nobody to take that away from me. A victory over Sykes is all that matters to me now.” [details]

Taurys Sykes doesn't even try to win fights anymore and has no punching power, I wouldn't call this is a competitive kind of fight really.

But just as Povetkin said, you should not take Sykes lightly! Otherwise you will end up like Rahman and only win by decision.

From what I've seen so far on Povetkin...He isnt ready for a fighter of Wlad caliber and he is going to get the brakes beat off of him...If Eddie Chambers was to get off like he was just imagine what Wlad is going to do...He is going to teeing off on poor Povetkin...I really hope Wlad doesnt give a very brutal (which will most likely happen) Povetkin needs more fights under his belt!

Despite his ko record being high, I think if Alexander had a bit more pop behind his punches because to me he just throws a bunch of punches is probably why he has that high ko percent. But if he learns to have one ko punching power, which I don't know if he can learn that, I think he could knock that chin right off of wlads shoulders.

I agree, Povetkin is a good tough fighter, but he is too susceptible to right hands, he is tailor made for Wlad.

Hopefully Povetkin can recover from the brutal KO loss he will suffer against Wlad.

**** Sykes. Povetkin will beta him but he'll get destroyed by Wlad.

He'll recover...Haye does need some fighters to face after he takes the Klitoris down.
