        One of the great fighters

Barrera should retire. He's had far too many slug-em and kill-em fights already. He's given endless excitement to millions of fans.

I have always felt that a smart, cunning, business, oriented guy like Oscar wouldn't take guys like Barrera in as REAL partners. That would mean handing over an actual share of the business you built up yourself (with a lot of advice of course) and that is not the act of a savvy businessman. because

Barrera knows damn all about a top level promoting business, is comparatively uneducated and unsophisticated, as are the other partners, like Hopkins for example. Barrera and the others got reflected glory from the association, and important sounding titles, but, I suspect, very little money, other than what their fights generated. So it's comparatively easy to withdraw from such a relationship.

Amongst others, the great Jack Dempsey did the same thing. He started the famous Dempsey's restaurant, and was there every night shaking hands with the customers and greeting the notables. But according to the story, he was only a "front" and didn't own a scrap of it. He was paid for his presence.

Bob Crosby's Orchestra and the Bob Crosby Bobcats were group owned. They used the Crosby name and he fronted the band. Common to many businesses.

I really have started to have a unique hate for barrera ever since he made me think that juarez/barrera II would be good enough for me to actually purchase.

I still think it's a bad move, good luck to him anyway.

Barrera actually has more education that all the other partners in Golden Boy combined, that list includes the name bearer of the company. Barrera has a B.S. degree from a top University in Mexico.

Yes I know Barrera's reputed to come from a Mexican "middle-class" background, (and has more education than the others, but it's still nothing to talk about)-that's the way it's usually described- but that doesn't make him fit to dive into high finance and top line promotional deals. Scheafer (sp?) is the one who really runs that business, but Oscar is the one who has the final word on the important decisions. Barrera would be nowhere in these situations.

I come from a prominent business family and I have a series of degrees, AND have been in business for part of my career, but I'd have to confess that I could be of absolutely no use to a top line boxing promtional company. Even though my uncle was a promoter and some of it rubbed off. But I suspect that even he, if he were alive, would make a mess of a really big promotion.

At the same time Pac was fighting Jorge Solis and made more money than Barrera fighting Marquez which really ticked him off. He is co-promoter too on that fight which must make more money and he has the bigger fight.

I think that GBP is going to break up in few years to come. Hopkins is they type of person that looks like he is going to do things in his own ways.

I heard he is want to work with Pac promotional company to make a Mexican vs Philippines thing going on.

But Arum and Don King has alot to fear with the new trend of self promoted superstar boxer which is taking over the business.

Oscar is one of the first successful one and opened the doors to many others like Mayweather,Winky ...etc

I think we could see Cotto going on his own he also got his own promotional company
