What does Cotto do after Margarito?

I know the the obvious choice is De La Hoya, but what if he fights Trinidad?

Paul Williams will be unavailable for a while. He fights Pavlik at the end of September...if he wins, I don't see him coming down to welterweight immediately and facing Cotto, if he loses, which is what I would suspect, I think he gets beaten up pretty badly and takes a while to recover from the damage, the loss, and will have to cut weight again carefully because he doesn't want to pull a Byrd. Either way, Cotto may one day fight Williams, but it won't be his next fight.

A Shane Mosley rematch, assuming Mosley beats Mayorga, for the vacant WW crown is a possibility.

There's always Mayweather, but while I think that fight will eventually happen, it won't be his next fight.

The Clottey-Judah winner in a unification?

    What do you guys think?

He will fight de la hoya. That will help his name then if Williams is still alive from fighting PAvlik he will destroy him to

De La Hoya is the obvious choice...i definately agree with that...

its the biggest name, money, and possibly the best level of competition cotto can go for (especially considering how closely oscar fought the considered best fighter in the world in mayweather, and how fresh oscar looked in his tune-up fight)...

many would disagree with that statement but i stan firm behind it...

other than oscar (in terms of competition) cotto could either rematch mosley...or fight williams (but as you stated) but thats not very likely considering he will move up for pavlik...

clottey (in my opinion) wouldnt get the fight...he's simply not on that level yet and cotto says he wants the best...and i dont think clottey is the best.

its possible someone from 140 could move up and take the fight...(maybe hatton looks for one last big payday)...or maybe a jr welter moves down to take the fight...

Truth is if cotto beats margarito he runs the table and can basically pick and choose his fights...ALL the fighters in the division (and many fighters one division up and one division down from his) will all be coming to him for fights...

basically if cotto wins he's the top guy...so we will have to wait and see.

Haha. I think Williams-Berto-Clottey/Judah or Mayorga/Mosley are his most likely and best options.

However I dont think Berto's people would put him in with Cotto at this point in his career and I dont know if Williams can come back down to full WW after Pavlik. So most likely it would be Clottey/Judah and Mayorga/Mosley winners as the most probable options and possibly Hatton if Hatton wants to cash in on his name for one last mega fight.

in reality, he'll prob fight de la hoya, and then after a war- pbf will come around to capitalize on the remains of the winner from their hellish battle and pbf will win...

Hatton won't fight Cotto. If he wants a superfight, he can fight a smaller man that would bring him more money in Pac instead of fighting another guy that will knock him out.

I see Cotto's future as Margarito 7/26, De La Hoya 12/6, Mosley in the spring for The Ring WW championship, and then hopefully Floyd comes back and stamps his legacy.

He has to take a comeback fight to get his confidence back, then fight Cintron before getting his title shot with Berto. He beats Berto and becomes champ again.
