I will be in NYC on September 20 and, man, I don't know but...even with the two bad KO losses he suffered a few years ago, his declining skills, etc...I JUST HAVE THE FEELING THAT RJ is going to look good in this fight...you never know, I just think he can end up stinging Joe will laser like shots from the outside and cause him all kinds of trouble. I dont think a guy with such a high outpunch volume can do to RJ what he does to other people because RJ will counter a guy who is there to be hit like that. Calz isnt as durable as Glen Johnson, I dont think, and that could be a big difference here because, remember, even in losses to Johnson and Tarver RJ had his moments where he put forth some great offense (the 5th round of the third fight was one of his best rounds ever, I thought)...I dont think J.C. will take the best punches of Roy Jones like Antonio and Johnson did.
I'll be there and...

He really didn't manage to do much against a high output pressure fighter in Johnson, as you said Calzaghe isn't as tough as Johnson but I don't think he has to be because Jones' legs are old now, I don't think he can stay on the outside and pepper Calzaghe, I honestly think his best shot is to lay on the ropes and play the role of counterpuncher because he still has fast hands and is accurate.Last edited by Silencers; 07-12-2008, 10:06 AM. -

I had that fight in mind but...Johnson gets in CLOSE and throws short powerful shots...Calz seems to keep more distance and throws wider shots...easier for RJ to counter most likely. Also, when he fought Johnson he came back so soon after getting bltized by Antonio. Different scenario now. I wouldnt bet on the fight, I dont feel that sure of anything. Just saying that if RJ comes out and find this fight to his liking it wouldnt surprise me at all.He really didn't manage to do much against a high output pressure fighter in Johnson, as you said Calzaghe isn't as tough as Johnson but I don't think he has to be because Jones' legs are old now, I don't think he can stay on the outside and pepper Calzaghe, I honestly think his best shot is to lay on the ropes and play the role of counterpuncher because he still has fast hands and is accurate.Comment

I've got a funny feeling about this fight too. RJJ's motivation for this fight is going to be incredible, while paradoxically, there isn't going to be as much pressure on him, as the underdog.Comment

Calzaghe does have a bad habit of throwing wide, wild shots when flurries which would play into Jones' hands because of his smartness, quickness and accuracy, Calzaghe mainly flurries when his opponents are either covering up or along the ropes, that's why I think Jones' best shots are on the ropes because he could lure Calzaghe in and make him throw those wide, wild shots and then counter Calzaghe with quick, accurate shots, it'll be interesting to see if he can do it.I had that fight in mind but...Johnson gets in CLOSE and throws short powerful shots...Calz seems to keep more distance and throws wider shots...easier for RJ to counter most likely. I agree that it was probably too quick for him to fight Johnson after getting knocked out so brutally against Tarver but he should have still been able to do better than he did, than again draining himself to make 175 for Tarver could have still been playing a part in that, it'll also be interesting to see if that was the case.
I understand what you're saying, I'm still giving Jones a shot even though I think Calzaghe will win.Comment
