How good was a Prime Morales?

EM was my favorite fighter and since he has been brought up so often I was wondering how you guys place him. He was a beast at 122 and no one could touch him(I still think he beat MAB in the first fight, fighting in spurts just doesn't do it for me). His right was like a safe, he destroyed fighters. Of the previous 10 fights before MAB only Wayne McCullough who had a great chin didn't get ko'd.

He was a champ at 21, but he did beat a old Zaragoza. He has a solid resume:

    Espadas
    Pacman
    Jones
    Barrera
    Chi
    Kelly(old)
    Zaragoza(old)
    Chavez
    Ayala
    Ramirez

Every single one of those fighters was a champ. And he has a W over all of them. Bueno was also a champ but not nearly as impressive. He also fought all challengers and won convincingly at the lower weight. I would argue that the MAB-EM wars took a lot from both fighters. EM was still solid but not quite as good following the first war.

Who would be a good match up regarding EM in his prime with some other greats, who would win and why. How good do you truly think Morales was at 122, 126, and 130? Obviously his best weight was 122, but he was very effective at all 3 weights.

Erik was a brilliant fighter in his prime before the first Barrera fight. The first Barrera fight really took something out of him and he went downhill after that fight quite quickly.

I don't think there were many who would have been able to beat him at that weight. You said his resume was solid, I think it was outstanding! He has one of the best resumes of any fighter today and easily one of the best of the contemporary fighters. He really was an amazing fighter who gave everything he had in every fight and was also among the most exciting fighters to watch ever. He had everything before the first fight; speed, skill, power, footwork, stamina, amazing chin and could fight like hell.

He was definitely among the best ever at 122 and would have been a good fight for anyone regardless. He was certainly at his best before the Barrera fight, which sadly, most people overlook and only Morales fans seem to remember just how good he was back then. I guess with his rapid decline due to his wars, people seem to remember him as he fought against Raheem and Pac and Diaz in which he was a very shot, former shadow of his previous great self. An absolute beast at his best around 98, 99, 00.

Morales was shot at the age of 27 years old.... He fought Pac when Pac had only 1 eye due to accidental headbutt and was using winning gloves instead of Cleto Reyes and was tested for blood 2 days before the fight... Still he won only by a slim 2 point decision..
Never mind, Pac in history was the only fighter to knock him out cold whether he's prime or not.. Pac came at 108 and jumped to 130..

Please tell me what the **** that has to do with the topic at hand? The only reason the pacman fight would even be mentioned is because that was morales' last great win he had left in him against an elite fighter, headbut or not pac was still one demensional until he learned to change it up and showed improvement against velasquez.

On topic, Benny ST definately said it best, at 122 he was absoutely awesome but that first war with Barrera made it seem like he was never the same afterwards. His win against Hernandez was one of my favorites along with Espadas and Zaragoza. Whats crazy is Espadas came so close the first time and got the hell beat out of him in the rematch. Next thing i knew, he was getting KTFO by Juarez like he was some bum. Morales ruined that guy.

He was a bad, bad, bad dude. He came to fight every single time, never backed down and fought some great guys. My first memory of him was hitting a guy 3 times on his way down. He hit the ****ing guy 3 times as the guy fell. That is bad ass.

Morales was beating top level competition in his early 20's, naturally I think he's a great fighter. But some times when a fighter peaks early he doesn't have much left time he gets into his late 20's and motivation can be a problem, it was obvious Morales lost motivation after the first Pac fight and that was his decline.

Morales always put everything on the table every time he stepped into the ring. He was a pivotal part of bringing back interest into the lower weight divisions and with the help of MAB, NAZ etc brought excitement the featherweight divisions while other division were suffering to bring exciting fights to fans.

I think The reason why Morales is not competitive even in his late 20's is because he doesn't take care of his weight outside of boxing... Pac also had a lot of brawls from Flyweight to Lightweight now and still he has a lot left.. Barrera is still competitive after his win over Morales at 130 and became a champion and has good wins by the likes of Peden, Juarez and Fana..

I really don't know but Morales is weighing like a heavyweight when he is outside of boxing.

What also sucks is that we should be adding Naseem to that list of wins as well.

In his prime he was a ****ing machine.

And I considered him the best pound for pound fighter.

Jesus he was nasty with the straight punch combos.
