Beijing Olympic 2008 Boxing Hopefulls...? your country.

So who's representing your country and what do you think the chances are of them coming away with something?
I'm looking quite forward to it this time around, I think we've one of the best squads ever!

In no particular order, the British boys:

    Light-heavyweight - Tony Jeffries

    Bantamweight - Joe Murray

(not sure on weight) - Bradley Saunders

Super-heavyweight - "Dynamite" David Price (won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games)

    Welterweight - Joe Saunders

Middleweight - James DeGale (Senior ABA champion)

Lightweight - "Funtime" Frankie Gavin (probably the best British boxing medal hope)

    My boy! Frankie!

"Being likened to Amir Khan would be a heavy burden to bear for some boxers. Not this one.

The dazzling 21-year-old from Birmingham has the talent to go one better than his close pal and former sparring partner Khan, and be crowned Olympic champ.

The lightweight boxer had quite a year in 2005, being named England's most improved boxer and picking up the English ABA, 4-Nations and ABA Box-Off titles.

England boxing chief Terry Edwards calls Gavin an "extraordinary talent". After becoming Commonwealth champion in Melbourne it looks like more glory beckons. "

Your article say Gavin is 21, which is incorrect, he was born sep 28th, 1983, which makes him 24.
I saw him (and most of the other England Olympic squad) fight at the EU championships in Poland a month ago. He fought at 64kg and handled current European Champion Boris Georgiev with ease. If he makes the weight, he's definitely the favorite for the gold in Beijing, having beat Tischenko rather soundly (Tischenko was undefeated and #1 p4p for four years prior to that). I'm not sure he'll make the weight though, and I could see the doubt in his eyes when we talked about it. He was running around in sweatsuits and a big winter coat with the hood up constantly to even make 64kg. He mad Georgiev look like a small 64kg fighter, so getting to 60kg will be very difficult IMO.
