On a serious note though: Whitaker is definitely at the top along with Hagler as the best southpaws I think. They both had it all although in very different ways. Apart from those two there have numerous great southpaws. I think someone mentioned 'Macho' Camacho who, while a good southpaw, was not among the best ever. Maybe one of the most naturally talented but underachieved.

Other really good southpaw champs I can think of are the great Australian Bantamweight champ Jimmy Carruthers. Fantastic boxer who was champ in the fifties. Some other Hall of Fame fighters who were southpaws are Duilo Loi and Flash Elorde. Excellent champs. The great Mexican champ Vincente Saldivar was also a southpaw from memory.

Of course Wright is definitely a contemporary southpaw great and is one of the few southpaws to use it completely to his advantage taking every gift the southpaw has over a conventional righty and working it to perfection. Great fighter.

I really like Pacman but christ after this last fight anyone would think he is the GOAT the way people are talking.

One of the greatest amateurs ever and he did retire undefeated as a professional but he didn't achieve nearly as much as a pro thanks to the Hungarian government.

Of course! Papp had the ability to be a true great but never really fought the guys he had to, to become one and due to his amateur career never really could have. Didn't he turn pro really late in his career? Wasn't he thirty five or something ridiculous? Unfortunate as he could have been amazing.

I think he was 31 when he turned pro and the Hungarian government blocked him from travelling to a world title fight after it was signed. What a shame, he really could have been a great professional along with being one of the greatest amateurs.
