You can just as easily rip Holmes' pre comeback record. How old and over the hill were Shavers, Norton, and Ali? Were Witherspoon, Cooney, Carl Williams, Cobb, and Weaver really great contenders?

I personally rank Holmes resume over Marciano's but you can criticize both. Holmes was not a beloved heavyweight in his heyday as many thought he was dominating a weak division...well that sounds familiar doesn't it?

The mafia protected stuff is just ****tarded, Marciano wasn't exactly considered a great prospect coming up and noone took him seriously as he was undersized, clumsy, and ****** up with career threatening injuires before he even turned pro. He wasn't even the thought of as the white hope, Rex Layne was until Marciano laid him out.
marciano did have ties to blinky palermo, there are actually videos of them together posing for the cameras. with that said i dont think marciano was 'protected' but he had affiliations with them.

marciano wasnt a bad fighter but he doesnt deserve to be in the top 5 imo, 49-0 doesnt mean ****. i can find guys with dozen losses on their records who done away with much better opposition.

No ****, that's because they didn't learn how to box when they were young. And that's because all the best athletes over a certan size choose basketball and football when they're kids these days. But if you went back in time and trained all the NBA all-stars to box starting from their youth, the best of them would blow away the best of today's heavyweights.

These days, the only boxing worth watching is around welter and lightweight. Those guys are big enough to be real athletes, but too small to play other sports. And lo and behold, that's where you see the great athletes like Floyd.

Dude would be so stiff and slow and lumbering. What do you think Klitschko's 40 time would be if he ran it? I wouldn't have high hopes.

Boxing takes more coordination than line play does if your opposition in each sport is equally athletic. But boxing against inferior athletes takes less coordination than line play against superior athletes does.

With or without the Ring belt, Wlad is the HW champ right now until he gets beaten again.

Wlad is the true champ right now. I'll eat my words if Thompson beats him.

Some people's posts are good reading on the crapper, yours are more the wiping variety. Much better opposition than Ezzard Charles? And before you give me the LHW routine, consider that Rocky only weighed 185 and was outweighed 5 pounds by Charles in the rematch. Rocky would fight as a LHW or maybe even a SMW today.

Ties to the mafia and the proof is he had his picture taken with them? You're a funny guy.

rocky is underrated by most but he like holmes had suffered from lack of big name opponents.

mafia guys might have had their picture taken with rocky but doubtful they would interfere in his boxing business.

rocky was a hero and role model and beloved by the italian community. mafia guys wouldn't want to hurt his legacy by interfering in his career. they loved the guy.
