Deandre Latimore Wants James Kirkland To Step Up

Junior middleweight Deandre Latimore (19-1, 16KOs) wants to fight the young bull of his weight division, undefeated James Kirkland (22-0, 19KOs). Last month Latimore scored an upset by stopping Sechew Powell, who was rated number-one by the IBF. [details]

This is what I'm talking about! Two prospects with everything to lose fighting against each other. I love it!

I don't think Kirkland is scared to fight him, just think they turned him down due to attempting to break away from Gary Shaw..

BTW I do thing JK will murder this dude

Theres only one way to find out, isn't there?

I think its a noble yet largely underpracticed concept, having the young prospects fight each other en route to becoming contenders. Far too often people are just fighting retreads and straight bums while building up pretty records and then getting HBO and Showtime dates.

I still give James the benefit of the doubt. If he already had decided which promotor to go with and he still declined then, I would say he is avoiding him..

But let's just wait till he signs with GBP or TopRank or whoever before we start saying he ducking people..

First and foremost, it usually isn't a case of a fighter ducking another. It's usually about business and if Kirkland is without a promoter its doubtful he'd be thrown into any dangerous fights in the immediate future.

Publicists use the term "ducking" because it looks good for their cause.

^^^ I agree with you.. It would be a nice fight on ShoBox or BOD should they fight later on this year or early next year.

It's very rare nowadays that young prospects fight each other. Kirkland is a dangerous fighter, as is Latimore, and if they fight it'd be the most significant prospect matchup in the division.

The winner could fight Angulo, which would make me

But yeah I'd definitely give the edge to Kirkland over someone who got KOed by Ian Gardner. I didn't even know Gardner had power punches.

Hell the F*** yeaaaaaaaaah! RJJ vs Calzaghe undercard would be a good fit! Pay Attention Square Ring Promotions and Calzaghe management! Then, One more B+ bout will make $49.99 a bit more palatable for a Seniors card!
